Side note - but does anybody know if the Red Sox show advanced metrics, or even OBP, on their scoreboard at all?

Would be nice if they at least showed everyone's OBP or OBP and SLG.

I think quite a few show that stuff, at least OBP.

All this talk about random media types checking in reminds me I want to find out who that douche is that keeps appearing on CTL. He tries to come across as some smooth cool dude and he looks like a date rapist. He said dumb stuff.

That's Matt Bowen. He's awesome. But I would only listen to him on football x's and o's. The rest he just shouldn't even be talking about.

Source believes #Cubs -- #Padres talks are going smoother than #Cubs -- #RedSox. Why am I not surprised? #Theo

Apparently, the Red Sox do show OPS on their scoreboards.

That would be a welcome change at Wrigley.

On this debate surrounding Theo, Cubs, Red Sox... there will be a solution. Bud's in the mix. Expect it soon

No idea as to this guy's credibility.

I've "known"(blogging friend) Maury for a while... he's credible. Great baseball business site and he writes for Forbes too.

Signifigant progress made today. On a side note, Ricketts impressed a candidate he interviewed for the Cubs job who spoke on the condition of annonimity. He said Ricketts wants his Cubs to be an elite franchise, not just a quick fix.

The story is on csn but I can not post it from my phone.

I like our fanboy owner more and more every tweet.

For those who don't end up clicking the Kaplan article, here is the quote from the unnamed GM

“I was very impressed with Ricketts' openness and honesty to do whatever it takes to make the Cubs one of the elite franchises in all of baseball," he said. "He is focused on the organization as a whole, not just a quick fix to stabilize the major league club. He is fully prepared to spend significant dollars on baseball operations and he is going to allow the next GM total authority. I wish it was going to be me but they are getting a great one in Theo Epstein and he and his staff should have the ability to appropriate how they want to spend the budget which should be in the area of 150 million dollars including the draft and amateur signings."

So, if the budget is $150MM on the dot (let's say), where would you guys expect that leaves us after draft/amateur signings?

I can't wait for the picture of Theo with a Cubs had on. That will make it real. I like the dream team approach.

Anywhere from 125 mil (a draft year like this year and 10 mil on amateur- that would be a fluke year where both draft and amateur were very deep and awesome) to possibly 140 mil (7 mil on draft and 3 mil on amateur on a down year), but I imagine Cubs are gonna be big spenders on the draft every year now so I would say anywhere in the 130s.

Red Sox were in this range basically from 2004-2009 before it ballooned to 160s the past 2 years...

I love it. Two Red Sox people make two completely opposite statements within 35 minutes of each other.

Julie covers the Cubs

Oops, never heard of her. Just assumed since I hadn't that she worked in Boston.

jersey, any idea who the one idiot who keeps saying dumb things is and just said something like, "We have no idea what these prospects are going to be doing in 5-6 years. This should be done already. This is ridiculous," and some more dumb [expletive] is?

Looks like a pretty short guy... balding/greying buzzed hair.

So anybody got anything on this Hoyer guy, all I've seen from stuff I've clicked on in this thread is

1. He was hired by Boston to do Saber stuff

2. He's a Theo guy

3. He traded AGon to Theo

What more do you need?

If Theo's cool with him, I'm cool with him.

So if the payroll is to be in the $150 million range every year than the Cubs will be players this offseason for (Wilson, Fielder, Fat Albert) correct?

It said the budget would be $150m, not payroll. That included major league payroll plus draft picks/international signings.

Not sure where front office budget comes into play.

These quotes show me that at least a few GMs looked at what the Cubs were doing under Hendry and laughed at the Cubs shooting themselves in the foot on an annual basis.
