ROFL...so meaningless. If it was progressing well, it'd be done.

I'm still laughing at the roble roble post by Kyle.

It was very very good.

I usually like Gammons but I just read what he wrote...Bottom 3 my nuts.

I'm getting bored of this Epstein hunt. There's almost a half dozen guys I wouldn't mind seeing as the next GM...

The hunt is over. Now it's negotiations. We have no idea what's really going on in those. For all we know, they've long since moved on from McNutt, maybe even decided on the compensation.

I don't see why people assume that the minute the negotiations are complete Ricketts is going to rush to Twitter or the nearest sportwriter. With the World Series beginning today, I wouldn't be surprised if Selig is making them hold off on any announcements.

If we've learned anything over the past several months, Ricketts is a [expletive] ninja and no one other than him and one or two others within the Cubs organization knows anything.

And chances are the other one or two will be sedated until Ricketts is ready for the announcement to be made.

I sent BA an email just for the heck of it, asking about general system placement and where McNutt would rank. Since I didn't ask them for the right to post their reply, I'll simply paraphrase and say that Callis said we're more middle of the pack, and McNutt would be top 10 in the Sox system. Someone should uh ... let Gammons know.

Someone (?) tweeted him the same question:

jimcallisBA Jim Callis

Closer to middle of pack than bottom three. @jdfisch: @pgammo said #cubs have a bottom three farm system. That cant be possibly true is it?

not me ... i don't tweet.

well you better start it is the wave of the future

I have zero followers. I just use twitter to yell at sportswriters, and ask them questions they'll never respond to. It's basically a tool for shouting at the moon.

That's stupid. I ask dumb questions I think will get answered. Not because I want the answer, but because it makes me twitter famous.

Only if I get to be Jim Neidhart.

he can't still be alive, can he?

Bret Hart works slowly and methodically, but The Hart Foundation will be all his.

Good Padres inside twitter acct. If you care about the Pads at all they do fantastic minor league analysis. But yeah, they either have good sources or sources with sources.

so what does that mean? Hoyer is our new GM and Theo will still be Team President?

That's been the talk of the day and some of yesterday.

Correction: president of baseball operations. Call them what you will, but for all practical purposes, Theo will be GM and Hoyer will be Assistant GM.

Yes. And Hoyer would likely bring Jason McLeod(Theo's best friend) with him. They've all worked together much.

I don't think that's true.

For what it's worth, I was following MLBTR chat and Tim Dierkes, who's a Cubs fan said that McNutt or Carpenter+a low level prospects would be fair compensation for Theo. I don't know what's worse, that he said that or that he views McNutt and Carpenter as having equal value. Edited by Little Slide Rooter

Levine says TR and Moorad are friends so compensation won't be an issue. It would be great to have Hoyer signed as GM first to really take the wind out of Larry's sails.

It seems to me that Epstein wants out of the day to day grind of GMing and wants to be able to focus on the bigger picture.

Why not?

Whether their titles are GM and Assistant GM or President and GM, they'd still be in the same spot in the organizational hierarchy and they'd still be working mostly together, but Hoyer would be the one doing most of the grunt work.

Why? Theo's essentially the "GM", he just now has no middle man to worry about like he did in Boston with Lucchino. He's in charge.

Right. And bringing in a guy he knows and trusts who is currently a GM strongly suggests Theo wouldn't be handling those duties. I love it.

Bc Hoyer would do the GM duties and Theo would do the president of baseball ops duties.

Correct.

Or a 30% chance of being so.

No, that's 100% of being so. If they are both hired that's exactly what will happen.

Why do you think it won't?
