Trolling? Just stating my feelings is all.

That's what makes you such a consummate professional.

2008 was horsepoop. The best team in baseball gets swept by a 20-6 combined score, never leading after the fifth inning of Game 1, continuing a streak of 8 consecutive playoff losses (all by 2 runs or more).

But none of that matters now. We are in the Theo Era.

What is variance?

Something that sucks as much dong as C.C. in this thread?

Yea...except when it benefits us. But yea.

9 consecutive playoff losses.

Pathetic.

ESPN

Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts said from the start that his search for a new general manager would be kept under wraps.

As the Cubs come close to finalizing a deal for Boston Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein, that low-key approach apparently extends to manager Mike Quade as well.

"I really did vanish for a week and then I've got 80 million texts and phone calls from people to get back to," Quade said Wednesday during an MLB Network Radio interview. "Everyone assumes I'm in the loop and understand. Look, Tom was going to do this search and if in fact it's Theo, I know it was someone he was probably looking at first and foremost."

Quade told his coaches not under contract to listen to any outside offers.

With one year and $1 million remaining on his deal, Quade, who is 94-104 as the Cubs' manager, faces an uncertain future no matter who Chicago's general manager will be.

"Tom was up-front with me from the get-go," Quade said. "I understand going in that this was going to be a long process. I've probably lost way more sleep during the season trying to solve problems and figure things out than I have with the current search and what may or may not happen.

"It's a huge decision for the organization general manager-wise, and obviously they've got their sights set on one of the best in the business."

Yea...except when it benefits us. But yea.

It's barely ever benefitted us in the past, and we don't need it from now on because we have Theo. So variance can suck it.

Agreed. Variance can suck it now. We have the resources and the management to be the Yankees/Red Sox of the NL, without another behemoth in the same league, let alone the same division.

Wrap your head around that [expletive].

I suppose we have to watch out for the Dodgers if they ever get competent management. They've been held back by having Hendry v.2 over there.

Jesus Christ... it's hard to fathom that the 08 team basically had an .800 OPS as a freaking TEAM. Including all the pitcher AB's and scrub guys at the end of the bench. Wow.

Yeah, I feel bad for the people that can only dwell on the playoff sweep. Yes, the ending sucked, but it's a long baseball season ahead of it, and it was pretty [expletive] great.

I went to like 15-20 games that year...including two in Cincy and one at Milwaukee...the last game of that series sweep when we pulled away from them in late July. Season was a [expletive] blast.

Except for the ending. It's like a great movie and ruined by a crappy ending. It just ruins what went before it.

Muskat says there probably won't be anything finalized today.

Theo Epstein can’t simply pack up his office at Fenway Park and move his belongings to Wrigley Field. Epstein has reportedly agreed in principle to a five-year deal to join the Cubs, worth between $15 million and $18.5 million. But because he has one year remaining on his contract with the Red Sox, the two teams must resolve compensation and who, if anybody, can accompany Epstein from Boston.

According to sources Thursday, Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts is handling the negotiations with the Red Sox regarding possible players who could be exchanged. The Cubs also could send cash, or a combination of players and cash. According to reports, the Cubs will not surrender any Major League players.

Assistant GM Ben Cherington was expected to take over as Red Sox general manager if Epstein leaves. But Epstein would most likely want others from the Boston staff as well.

I'm just now remembering how bad the worrywarts were that year despite the fact that the team was constantly beating down teams. And then the game threads turned into a [expletive] of back and forth...... You'd think 162 games would give people some perspective.

I'm not sure any level of success Theo achieves here will stop that [expletive].

That 4-game sweep in Milwaukee in late July was some of the most fun I've ever had watching Cubs baseball.

You're right, it was late July. D'oh.

No. 2008 was like LA Confidential; an amazing, nearly perfect film that I can shut off 5 minutes before it ends and still love.

But it still stings every time you shut it off doesn't it.
