“Theo loves football,” said Towers, now the GM in Arizona. “He’ll put on his Adam Vinatieri jersey. He’ll jump off the couch and try to block kicks on the living room television.

“But he does not like to lose. Those stories about him (breaking furniture) in his hotel room after losing (Jose) Contreras to the Yankees are true.”

Ugh, Theo just lost .0000000001% sexy points for once wanting Eckstein.

Not even that much. He wanted to pick him up off waivers for no cost and really no risk. Eckstein got on base 41% of the time in the minors, which is what I'm sure he was pointing out. And while sportswriters have ruined Eckstein forever, he did average 2.6 WAR for the first 5 yrs of his career, which is pretty decent considering his cost.

Keep in mind, this was back when Eckstein was undervalued, prior to 2002.

I was thinking it was stupid, then I looked it up and Eckstein gave them 6.6 WAR his first two years while he was cheap.

I'm sure CARMINE just had a virus that day.

I dont think he HAD CARMINE. maybe he invented her in order to never make the same mistake again.

Yeah, Eckstein had his value with both the Angels and the Cardinals. The annoying thing was the FJM targets who overvalued him, and usually for the wrong reasons.

I Heart Theo

Me, too. Seriously, I feel as if the Cubs are a different team already and Theo has not made his first move yet. Could you ever see Hendry attempting to dive off the couch and pretend to block a kick?

He's going to be breaking a lot of [expletive] as a Cub.

Why is this compensation thing taking so damn long? The Red Sox owners are probably the ones being douches about the whole thing. Maybe they leaked it to the press to drive up compensation? Who knows? Either way, can't they just take $5M and let this [expletive] thing happen?

I can imagine him falling off the couch while trying to catch a dropped chicken wing. Pretty close.

I don't remember if I got a PM about it or what but I had to edit it.

That's what exactly (how weird is that? - post was from 10/13/08) 3 years of excessive booze will do to a memory, I guess.

Don't I know it! Booze is the devil indeed. It is a great quote tho.
