I think the importance of "21 games back with 16 to play" trumps anything involving Rodrigo Lopez. Last night during halftime, I switched to the Cubs game for a couple of minutes. I doubt I'll bother tonight.

Rodrigo Lopez has no business being on the mound. Jay Jackson should have gotten a 4 start audition starting at Lopezes last start. They'll have to either roster him or expose him to the Rule 5 anyway, so why not just call him up and let the flotsam like Lopez, Ortiz, and Grabow just go away?

Jeff Baker - the guy who couldn't be traded even though he couldn't beat out Darwin Barney - is back in the line-up again. Since June 1 he has been horrible. Why not just let Lemahieu play 1B again like he did when he was with the team earlier this year?

I know you shouldn't place too much emphasis on Sept stats, but there really isn't a reason for Quade to keep playing Johnson and Baker against left handed starters when there are young guys on the roster who could play.

Definitely not a fan of stacking the lineup against LHP. I hate it even more in mathematically lame duck baseball. Reds are nowhere close to competing, so it's not an integrity-of-the-race issue either. I'd rather see every lefty bat Quade can find. Start Hill at catcher and make him bat lefty too.

Our Cubs have quietly gone from absolutely putrid to merely very bad.

They are now 60-59 in games not started by Coleman, Davis, or Russell. And that includes our heaping helping of Rodrigo Lopez.

At this point, I'm more concerned about the Cubs upgrading the pitching rotation in the offseason than the offense. Yes, a star 1B would be great, but the pitching is what made the team atrocious all year. Injuries hurt, of course, but the system was ill prepared to deal with the injuries, which was the big season killer.

If the Cubs aren't going to roster him this winter then they shouldn't roster him now. Rostering him and then de-rostering him makes it more likely to lose him than exposing him to the Rule 5 draft.

Is this the guy that hilariously hates Jeff Baker like he's the 2nd coming of Neifi?

Why would the de-roster him? Just roster him now and keep him on the roster. Whats the worst that can happen, he takes a roster spot from Justin Berg/John Grabow/Rodrigo Lopez/Ramon Ortiz/Esmailen Caridad?
