A few initial thoughts on the great win:

-J Webb is going to be the most criticized of the offensive line, but Gabe Carimini was bad too. Obviously, he's gonna improve as it was his first game, but both tackles need to be better.

-The d-line was fantastic today.

-I don't know if Charles Tillman gets the respect he deserves.

-I thought Martz called a pretty good game today. But, I'd still like to see Cutler being put into less vulnerable positions when the game is out of reach. The pick six was totally unnecessary, as well as Cutler scrambling with 1 minute left in the game.

Agreed at all points. The pick-6 was extremely frustrating since it was so unnecessary (plus the pressure put Cutler in harms way while the Bears were up 24 in the 4th).

Carimi was bad but I figure there will be tons of improvement from him as he has the talent and this was his first NFL game. Webb, on the other hand, is what he is. And he was worse than Carimi today.

I thought Webb outplayed Carimi until the holding calls in the 2nd half. Both OTs were below average. Really the only players that I would give a below average grade to today. But both will get better. Webb improved as the year went on last year, he will again. Carimi definitely will.

While they each made some mistakes, I thought they each put together a pretty good game. Webb's lateral movement looked great. I've never seen him move that well. Carimi I have been very impressed with through the preseason, and showed some flashes today for sure. He definitely stuck out as the weak link on the line today though. Two of the four sacks were squarely on him. He went to punch his man on one of them, whiffed, and lost his balance long enough to get beat. One he got pushed back into Cutler enough where Cutler and to bail out of the pocket so that Webb's man, who was pushed around the pocket by Webb, was able to make the play.

Other than those two plays though, I thought he looked good. The line as a whole looked good while pass blocking. There was one sack where the pocket collapsed from the interior line and another where Cutler didn't have an open man which was probably a coverage sack more than anything. The holding needs to stop though. The Bears were lucky they get didn't hurt too badly with the game being pretty much in hand at that point.

it was nice to get 5 sacks by the d-line.

And a very nice change from the way the Bears have played for most of the last I-don't-know-how-many-years

I think that was partially a product of Atlanta having big problems up front. But yes, it was really nice to see. We harrassed Ryan all game. And he really couldn't handle it very well.

Melton is turning out to be a diamond in the rough. Definitely looking forward to seeing what he can bring in the future.

2 sacks and 7 quarterback hits from an interior defensive lineman adds a dimension to this defense that we haven't had ever.

man you guys love jim cornelison... not sure i've ever heard a crowd start going bonkers like that for the singer of the national anthem. wonderful voice and energy.

It's a United Center thing, mostly. The fans do that at all the Blackhawks games.

He's pretty cool. I like that the cheering during the anthem has caught on when he sings for other Chicago sports teams besides the Blackhawks. The fact that people from other cities don't like it and think its disrespectful only makes me like it more. I'm not sure how cheering with excitement while your national anthem is sung could be considered disrespectful but whatever.

This is a really cool video that the Tribune posted about the Bears moving into Soldier Field in 1971. I had no idea that Soldier Field was in such a state of disrepair before the Bears moved in.

An interesting thing was that Soldier Field was only meant to be a temporary home for the Bears, and when George Halas was interviewed in the video he said that even if Soldier Field works out they needed a new stadium as soon as possible. Obviously they didnt get that new stadium until 2003 after 32 years at the old Soldier Field.

He was in top form yesterday. He went to point at the flag, and it was like -- the whole field is the flag, uh just point out there somewhere, anywhere.

Cheering for the national anthem is great, as long as its not being sung for a solemn event. Like cheering for it yesterday at ground zero or at the pentagon, would be weird. At a sporting event, even marking the 10 year anniversary of 9/11- totally cool.

My problem was with the USA! chant afterwards. Unless its at an Olympic sporting event, its lame and tacky.

Some of the USA chanting was in response to things going on on the field during commercials from what I gathered. There was a lot of military people there being highlighted.

Thank you Facebook for reminding me that a year ago today, I made this wall post:

Tony DeMaria P.S. Please leave forever Lovie

I think it was after the Lions game in week 1 last year. I can't remember what Lovie did that was so bad but it's funny how much difference a year makes. Not to say that I'm "rah rah" for Lovie but he's certainly given himself some rope in the last year.
