I don't know why the AZL box scores no longer update live.

Liria was strong today. He had 5 no-hit innings and finished with: 6.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 3 K. Peoria ended up giving up 1 hit all game.

Vitters 1-for-3 with a single and ... another walk!

I hope it's a coincidence that he's had no extra-base hits during this little walk streak.

Untrue...he had a double on the 22nd.

Still, coming into today, he was batting .194/.306/.226/.531 in his last 10. All that with four walks and four k's across 31 ab. All those numbers go up a bit with the 1-3 today.

Maybe we should just go ahead and move Baez off shortstop now

Three more errors today. ugh

I'm going off the hope that they're changing his mechanics and he's still working through it.

And/or he's rusty.

At least Baez had 2 doubles.

Vogelbach 1/3 with a double.

Amaya 3/4.

Jenson and Scott each with 2 scoreless. I'm thinking we could have found another McNuttesque steal with Jenson (though it's obviously early, and Arizona. But based off of stuff).

Szczur has ran up against a wall. He's went directly from football to baseball with very little break at all and he's never even played this long of a baseball season to begin with. Basically, I'm not going to worry about him right now. The power he's flashed this year has made me consider this year a success for him. Hopefully he does well in Daytona early next year and gets the midseason bump to Tennessee.

I'm huge on Jensen. I'll be honest ... I'm more excited about Jensen than I am about Maples (the arm action of Maples concerns me). Jensen looks ... potentially dominant, stuff wise.

Very good start for Ben Wells. Very bullish on him. He gets good natural sinking action on the fastball, love the frame, and the secondary pitches have shown flashes at times this year. If he tidies that up, he could be devastating.

What's Jensen throw? I remembering liking the arm but I'm feeling lazy. Was he HS or CC? I'm a fan of Scott of the young arms not named Maples from the 2011 draft. Good pitchers build, athleticism, fastball, and he can possibly spin a true curve.

I like Austin Reed, but he's been meh this year. Wells is going to be a solid one, definitely one to watch.

He's CC:

Arizona Phil[/url]"]Jensen (who broke about three or four D'backs bats in his two innings of work) throws a fastball that tops out at 94 MPH and a hard slider, and reminds me a lot of Daytona RHRP and 2010 10th round pick Aaron Kurcz, and Scott throws an 89-91 MPH fastball and a slow curve.

Also:

He doubled off the top of the LF fence and then stole 3B in the bottom of the 1st, flied out to the warning track in CF in his 2nd AB in the 3rd, flied out to the warning track in LF in the bottom of the 5th, and then doubled off the top of the right-centerfield fence in his 4th PA leading off the five-run 8th. No question the kid has big-time power.

But Baez wasn't quite as impressive in the field, committing three careless errors at SS that resulted in three unearned runs scoring. While he made one nifty "no-look" back-handed stop & throw worthy of the Harlem Globetrotters in the top of the 2nd, and started a key 6-4-3 DP to help protect the Cubs one-run lead in the top of the 9th, he also bobbled two easy bouncers (one in the 6th and another in the 8th) allowing batters to reach base (both eventually scored), and then on one of the fielding errors he blew his cool, launching a totally unnecessary throw over the 1st baseman's head (the batter had already crossed 1st base) allowing the batter-runner to advance to 2nd base.

The 18-year old Baez is kind of cocky and a bit of a "hot dog" (like holding the ball an extra beat and then firing a rocket to 1st base, or trying to turn a routine play into an ESPN Sports Center highlight), and he is a bit chippy with the umpires, too. He does run OK and he is an aggressive base-runner, and while he looks like he enjoys playing SS, he probably does not have the range to stay there. He could eventually end up at 3B, or maybe even a corner OF spot (he appears to have the arm strength needed to play RF). However, the Cubs will probably leave him at SS for a while to help ease his adjustment to pro ball, since he obviously feels comfortable playing the position.

As far as Baez:

- On draft day I compared his scouting reports to a young Aramis Ramirez. Cocky, arrogant, athletic, great bat speed, easily line drives, potentially big power...

- That said, after SS he should be tried at 2B.

- Then 3B.

I'm not sure that they need to really try him at 2nd if they feel he's better at 3rd. I'm not against it, but there's enough up the middle guys that they should be able to stopgap 2nd base with someone from the system, and maybe Castro slides that way. If they feel he's better suited at 3rd, then I'd move him there after short.

Good game for the Hawks.

PC Chen 2-3 2B, BB

DeVoss(PH for Chen. Why?) 1-2 2B

Darvill 2-4 2B, BB

Golden 1-4 HR

Thoughts on Gioskar Amaya? Hitting for average, 11 2B, 8 3B, 13BB to 39K's in 204AB. The triples tell me that he has speed but he is only 13 for 21 in SB so maybe I'm wrong. .417OBP and .927OPS. I think the kid is doing great at an 18 year old in Arizona.

Darvill's really had a strong August. At the end of the day, though, he needs to show some power development to really have a shot.

Amaya's got a quality ceiling, as there is, as Raisin has noted, some power potential. How much power develops will ultimately determine how good a prospect he becomes, but there's a strong enough hit tool to work with there.

I wouldn't make the decision based on who else is in the system. His greatest value to the team may end up being via trade, and if he can handle 2B that may be the right decision to make. A good hitting 2B has more cache than a similar hitting 3B.
