Amaya with a double and triple and Hernandez with a double for Mesa.

Brett Jackson led off for Iowa with a HR.

Greg Rohan with a 2 HR game.

Jackson goes deep again. That's 7 in 101 AAA PA's.

Maybe it's time to stop messing around with Tyler Colvin and call the kid up.

Wouldnt surprise me to see him called him within 2 weeks if he keeps hitting like he is.

i'd rather have soriano or byrd go away and have jackson and colvin playing in the same outfield. you already know what you're going to get from soriano and byrd. this is a pretty good evaluation period for colvin because really, what do the cubs have to lose?

I personally think that Colvin will end up as a 4th outfielder or even in a platoon with Soriano.

Thank goodness we kept Marlon Byrd at the deadline.

Looking forward to having no option but Colvin in RF next year, were you?

Willengton Cruz was great outside of the control: 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 4 K.

Nice to see a 6/1 K/BB out of McNutt even if he was only able to go 4 innings and gave up 7 hits.

Even if there were some glimmer of Tyler Colvin as a starter for next year, I'd prefer throw up a prayer to try and move Soriano in the winter. Either way, unless they need the money, Byrd is probably the best offensive option of any outfielder we have, and if Fielder and Wilson are the plans, I can't see there being any extra cash to sneak in an OF as well.

I'm assuming he was pulled due to pitch count.

Yeah, McNutt hit 85 pitches.

Flaherty has really been struggling at Iowa. Kind of odd how he was raking at AA while Jackson was struggling, then they both head up a level and it's reversed.

Vitters has been quite encouraging this season. Could he end up in Iowa before the end of the season, or are there too many infieders there? Also nice to see Ha getting back on track, putting up similar numbers to those he had at Daytona.

which part has been quite encouraging, the .319 obp or the 21 errors?

I was thinking more the .283 BA and .457 SLG. I think we just need to accept that he'll never be a guy that walks a lot and will ultimately end up in the outfield, hopefully with better results than Yonder Alonzo.

If Jim Hendry can't manage to find a corner outfielder for less than $6 million that can put up an OPS around .800, he's worse than I thought.

I may be forgetting an obvious name or two, but I can't recall anyone that's a better bet than Byrd to hit that number at that cost, while playing solid defense. I certainly think that the list wasn't overflowing with names like that to make it as easy as you are making it sound.

If you mean to do it through a trade instead of going the free agency route, doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of acquiring some prospects by trading Byrd in the first place?

I would imagine a corner OF with an 800 OPS for $6m or less would probably be pretty hard to acquire.

.776 OPS as a 21 year old in AA?

How many qualified OFs do you think have an OPS of .800+?

Right now there are 25 in all of MLB.

he's been all right, but i don't know how he's been quite encouraging. he's always going to hit for a decent average because he makes a lot of contact. his slugging is fine, not great but not terrible. i just don't see how it's been "quite encouraging" because his performance is right around what i would've expected, mid to high 700s ops with low obp and bad defense.
