RHP Brett Wallach demoted from Daytona to Peoria.

Not often when you see a guy get demoted 2 levels in a season, is it?

Wallach has only been demoted 1 level this season.

I thought he started off in Tennessee. Guess not.

Are you confusing him with Smit, the other pitcher acquired in the Lilly trade? He has spent time at both Daytona and Tennessee this year.

What's the deal with Cruz? He's put up some very nice numbers this year.

He's probaly the best lefty prospect in the system. Low 90s FB, nice slider and change. Has room for projection with that FB too.

What are you talking about? He's 1-2 on the year and we don't need pitchers that can't win ballgames.

Yes that was sarcasm

Marco Hernandez just hit his first stateside HR.

Happy 22nd birthday to Trey McNutt. So far he's gone 5 strong, giving up 1 earned on 5 hits, striking out 4 and walking none while averaging just under 13 pitches per inning.

And Vitters with his 14th walk of the season...

And his 15th...

I believe that is the first time all season he has walked twice in one game. According to milb.com, neither of them have been intentional. What in the wide, wide world of sports is going on around here?

Cubswin - according to fangraphs game logs, Vitters walked twice on 4/13 and 7/10.

Very pleased to see McNutt put up a good start. There's a lot of general prospect followers that seem fairly down on him. It's been a lost season in terms of development, but he still has flashed plus fast/plus breaking ball to go with occasionally showing a much improved changeup. I think he was overhyped last year, but I think he's almost a bit under the radar now.

Honestly, much as I've never been high on Ha, despite his poor numbers, I'm sort of impressed that he seems to be showing a better approach and seems to be learning. Still have my doubts on his bat.

...and happy 23rd birthday to Brett Jackson tonight with his fourth homerun in AAA.

Well ... the final line won't look good. McNutt left that one up. Just a mistake pitch. He had been getting the pitches down a bit more.

That said this is a good work for him.

What is the general consensus on McNutt's ceiling at this point? A low-end #2 / high-end #3 starter?

Going back to last season, his numbers in AA now look as follows: 78IP, 100H, 27BB, 52SO, 7HR

Granted, he has battled through some injuries and hasn't pitched consistently this season, but he has really given up a lot of hits at the AA level and his strikeout ratio is down signicantly from previous levels. It does make me wonder what his actual ceiling is as a prospect.

You leave out how good he was until he got to AA last year (as a 20/21 year old). He struggled a little bit when he first got to AA, then was very good this season until the injuries started. In my not-so-expert opinion, if he reaches his ceiling, he'll be better than a #3.
