I was on the Aramis bandwagon early in the year but ive now I'm leaning toward the pick up his option crew.

What is the difference here?

the hate bandwagon.

Can't really call it a bandwagon if you're the only one on it.

I'm indifferent as to what we do with him. On one hand, his really horrendous starts the last two years would have me concerned heading into another multi-year deal with him. But the third base market might be even worse than what Aramis has done at the start of the last two seasons.

I still believe he would do what Lee did last season and agree to waive his NTC if enough effort is being put forth by the team that wants to acquire him. But if you trade him now, how much are you going to get back for him? Yes the team that trades for him would have to pick up his deal next year, so you should get a better haul than you would if he would just become a free agent after the season. I'm still not convinced we would get a decent coup for him, however.

If you can buy him out and then re-structure his deal for the next 2-3 years, I won't complain. I'm sure that some will find a way to whine about it, but you could obviously do much worse than Aramis at 3rd base.

His start wasn't "horrendous" this year. He just wasn't hitting for his usual power.

aramis ops by month:

mar/apr: 758

may: 725

june: 893

july: 1148

this guy is pretty good, i hope he can keep playing for us

I guess I have higher expecations for Aramis. An average OPS of .740 for the first two months actually isn't too bad considering how most third basemans have performed this season.

Maybe horrendous wasn't the right word, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't concerned about his slow starts in back to back seasons.

Well, they were very different starts. Last year he was just plain awful into June. This year he was still productive and basically putting up decent numbers except for the power.

I wonder what that was, exactly.

I figured it was one too many injuries and he'd never get it back.

Then boom -- he's back.

Aramis has been the best cubs player of my adult life, but if you're an outsider, this season sure does look like the classic contract year season.

How old are you? Sosa too long ago?

About the same as me. I caught a bit of Sosa as a twenty year old though.
