The Lakers are seriously trying to trade for Chris Paul and Dwight Howard. Pau Gasol would be traded in a deal, but Kobe would stay put. If they can pull that off, forget it.

If the Heat can pull off getting LeBron James and Chris Bosh while keeping Dwyane Wade, forget it.

Valid point, but I'll take Paul/Bryant/Howard over Lebron/Wade/Bosh any day.

Not saying they wouldnt be awesome but Kobe is likely already in his decline, so I would bet in 2 years you could hardly consider him a superstar anymore. Maybe I'm wrong but he sure showed signs of decline last year. His work ethic and desire are second to none, but eventually father time catches up.

They would have to gut the roster to trade for Paul and Howard, so the situation would be similar to Miami in that they would be really good but probably lacking for 1-2 years until they can pick up the complimentary pieces.

Hey SSR, do you think E'Twaun Moore will make the Celtics roster? I read that he's coming back from Italy for camp.

It's hard to know much of anything until the offseason plays out and we know what kind of veteran backups they can get for the backcourt. The only guards on the roster are Rondo, Allen, and Avery Bradley (who Rivers refused to play under any circumstances last year much to my chagrin) Gun to my head, I'd say he makes the roster but spends much of the year inactive.

Ugh, I have this horrible feeling that the Lakers are gonna pull that off.

It certainly doesn't seem as improbable after Miami's haul last year.

The Heat had been strategically planning their cap space years in advance for that. The Lakers don't have the cap space to sign both outright. The can

use Gasol as trade bait to get one of the two, thats it. It isn't going to happen.

My fear is that the Hornets and Magic will both have to take low ball trade offers because Howard and Paul won't sign extensions with more than a handful of big market teams.

Did the Nuggets get a low ball trade offer for Melo? Did the Jazz get a low ball offer for Deron Williams? They didn't get near the value in return for the respective players, but they got decent packages of young players, picks, and cap space. The Lakers can't offer this. It's just not going to happen.

Ok, maybe it will, considering the NBA owns the Hornets and I could see that snake David Stern steering Paul to LA for nothing and then LA uses Gasol and Bynum for Howard. If so I'm giving up the NBA

Bynum/Odom for Howard and Gasol for Paul. The Bulls, and others, can beat that package for Howard but if he won't sign an extension then those teams won't offer.

The Lakers will pull it off, but CP3 and Kobe will all hurt themselves and miss 50 games apiece.

Hmmmm....that's a scenario that I may pull for.

Great, so in the new NBA the Lakers will still have a ton of the talent. Yawn. The NBA is slightly more legit than the WWE.

Unless the Bulls win.

Uh, the Bulls pairing Rose and Howard would be totally fair because there's only two of them, DURRRR.

You're right, I can't argue with the numbers. You know the ones like attendance, where mls has surpassed the NBA. Or ratings, where again the NBA trails the other big sports. The Lakers dominance by buying everyone else's stars is definitely great for casual fan interest.

I hate this silly argument. NBA teams have 41 home dates and an insane amount of playoff games. They also have much more expensive tickets. The fact that some MLS teams can sell 25,000 seats to their 15 home games doesn't mean they do better in attendance.

Eh it's prolly not that big of a deal, just pisses me off the Lakers always step in and snatch the big names from other teams for what amounts to crap. Not sure how people can find that super interesting.

When have they actually done that? Just with Gasol, and that was a special case since Jerry West was in Memphis.

I don't know, it's not great parity-wise but it's probably good for the game when the huge market teams are good.

Why are people STILL saying this? West wasn't the GM in Memphis when the trade happened. And Memphis didn't get screwed at all. They were terrible and paying Pau a ton of money. By trading him, they got essentially got Mark Gasol, 3 first rounders, and 25 million in cap space in that deal, which led directly to them being the competitive team that they are now.
