With this and the crumbling Reds pitching staff, if theres such thing as baseball Gods, they sure want the Brewers to win the NL Central.

Nightmare scenario: Pujols opts to stay with the Cards for less money, the Brewers win it all and Fielder opts to stay and the Cubs plunge further down the shame spiral.

I don't see Fielder staying regardless. A realistic scenario is this injury bringing the bidding for Pujols down into the Cards' range, and it drags out deep into the offseason, when he eventually re-signs with STL. The Cubs wait out the Pujols decision, while Prince signs elsewhere during the process, leaving them with neither.

Even Pena moves on, and Hendry spreads out several million dollars between Wilson Betemit, Micheal Cuddyer and Edwin Jackson. We enter a very dismal period in Cubs baseball and Starlin Castro becomes the youngest player ever to demand a trade.

I don't see Fielder staying either, hence why it's a nightmare.

And I really don't see Prince signing before Pujols unless it becomes apparent that Pujols is taking a deep cut.

I sincerely hope Pujols signs an 8 year 210+ million contract with the Cardinals

:hides:

In a lot of ways I'm with you. The Cards enjoyed his monster years, so it's only fair that they should suffer from his overpaid, decline years.

Of course that presumes Pujols will be declining, which I happen to think he will, in something resembling the way ARod has declined in his mid-30s: 8-10 win, elite player down to a still-valuable but grossly overpaid 4-6 win player.

In depressing recollection, isn't this more or less the same way Furcal broke Lee's wrist several years ago?

I think the Lee injury/collision was more serious/hard.

Lee suffered non-displaced fractures of both his right ulna and radius. Pujols fractured only his left radius. The expected recovery time is similar in both cases.

I actually think that is good news. This gives him more time to demonstrate his abilities post-injury; teams will have a better idea of what his status is (and perhaps the Cards will have to pay in full after all).

Pujols is recovering faster than expected. He's now expected to return by July 15, after the All-Star break, if not sooner.

Ah, the wonders of HGH.

You should actually be applauding the Cardinals purposely giving a conservative timetable for his return. Given that it took multiple scans to find the fracture and the fact that HGH isn't going to a) heal a broken bone or b) heal it in two weeks, it's pretty clear he wasn't that bad off.

so you're suggesting that pujols is using some super p.e.d.

i agree

Yes.

This is Hendry's fault. Why don't our players have access to this super p.e.d.?

They do, but in typical Cubs fashion, they aren't using it correctly
