I guess I am the only one wanting a continuous tank and higher draft position then?

Yes, you're the only one who prefers the team start playing terribly again rather than play out of their minds and get back in the race.

Yes, but which one is more realistic?

The middle.

Sadly that is probably the most likely option.

We've had what, 102 years of waiting on the best draft pick... in other words, we're always waiting on the next big superstar from the minors or we get all excited about the once really good guy.

You see how that works out.

And you know what? Today we get to watch baseball. A team we love. A team we couldn't turn on if we tried. Heck, let's enjoy it now for what it is.

If we were to somehow sweep the Yankees, I'm pretty sure just about everyone would be drawn back in. That said, the problem I see is not that we're 9 games back, but rather that 4 teams are in front of us, not 1 or 2.

Problem isn't 9 games back or behind 4 teams. It's being not that good of a team.

You don't have to be a particularly good team to win this division.

Or win the World Series for that matter...

Pretty much. I don't even look at it as a push to get back into things this season. I just like seeing the Cubs win, even if it is just in the short term. I'll never understand people that seem to be rooting for the Cubs to become the Pirates if they can't win the division.

Did you forget your green!?

Not at all. If this team finishes dead last, it means a lot of the following are true:

Dempster and Zambrano are still way below previous expectations

Garcia is hurt/ineffective

Soto is bad

Wells never really solidifies

Castro's defense never becomes more consistent

Barney can't be a decent, cheap 2b

etc.

Those are all very bad things for the future of the organization, and jumping up a few spots what's shaping up to be a mediocre draft is not worth that.

That is way too much assumption.

So how does this team improve its draft position otherwise?

I guess we could hope that all of the key players for the future play well, while simultaneous everyone whose contract is up after this year is so awful that it overwhelms them and drags the team down, but that seems a bit complicated.

What in the world has DeWitt done to justify batting him third?

Been on a team with a clueless manager. I think Quades reasoning is that since we dont have a guy whose truely qualified to be a 3 hitter, go with the worst option.

Your Chicago Cnbs lineup:

Fukudome RF

Castro SS

DeWitt 2B

Aramis 3B

Pena 1B

Reed CF

Soriano LF

Soto C

Demp P

Dont mind the lineup aside from the whole DeWitt hitting 3rd part.

Another totally unique lineup..........

Quade has now used 58 different lineups in 70 games

Quade has put the same lineup up on consecutive days twice

Quade's most often used lineup has been used 4 times

Blake DeWitt is THE MAN !!!

Team record by third hitter

CUBS are 14-13 when Byrd hits in the third spot
CUBS are 10-23 when Castro hits in the third spot
CUBS are 1-0 when Ramirez hits in the third spot
CUBS are 1-3 when Baker hits in the third spot
CUBS are 3-0 when DeWitt hits in the third spot
CUBS are 0-1 when Snyder hits in the third spot

Go CUBS !!

Even by average fan stats like BA and HR's and what not DeWitt is far from a 3 hitter type. It really doesn't make much sense aside from the Cubs being 3-0 or what ever Fred just posted, when he is hitting third. (not that Dewitt batting third had much to do with that, I'm sure it didn't but I'm trying to use Quade's thinking.)

Boo, I get the Braves and Rangers today. Not really a shock though considering my location, but still. Gonna have to find a Justin.tv link or something to watch the game.

Before 576 people ask, Joe Buck is still (apparently) getting over a vocal chord virus so that is why he sounds more monotone than usual.

Those of us that are fortunate enough to be in the Chicago area and can pickup WGN radio don't have listen to Buck's.... uh..... personal problems.
