Considering the lack of options, Quade should seriously consider batting Johnson 3rd, at least as long as he stays hot, which has been pretty much all season. Not like we have a better CF option either while Byrds out.

Thoughts:

-If Pena is Prince Fielder, Russell Martin probably dies today

-ONLY THE CUBS hit a HR (with Reed Johnson) down by 1 instead of 2 off Mariano Rivera

-We saw today with an extremely patient team in the Yankees why our middle relievers will never succeed - they can't consistently throw strikes

-Really impressive first two games against the Yanks, I really expected the Cubs to get blown out of the water. It sucks that tomorrow's pitching matchup gives the Cubs virtually no chance, but before the series began, I would have been content with one win anyway.

We had no business winning this game today. We were lucky to have lost by only a run. Joe Buck and Tim McCarver are awful. I guess the only bright side for tomorrow is we have had success against Sabathia in the past. Let's hope Double D taught Wells the weakness he found on Friday. :-)

It's Sabathia, not [expletive] Pedro in his prime.

Though, yes, Wells sucks.

He doesnt suck, but you never like your chances when you have a 5th starter, whose basically a 4th starter out of necessity going against an ace, especially one with an offense significantly better than ours, however, Johnson and Baker are like having a real heart of the lineup vs. lefties.

How many times to we have to go through this whole pitching matchup [expletive]?

If we're looking at [expletive] pitching matchups, the Cubs should have lost on Friday also. And yet somehow, miraculously, the Cubs won that day with Doug [expletive] Davis pitching.

Yes, the pitching matchup is obviously not in our favor. But that hardly means the Cubs have "virtually no chance".

Yeah, Randy Wells is not a 5th starter.

Look around the league. Most teams 5 starters are probably on par with Wells. Its not his fault that we only have 3 starting pitchers that are better than him when we should have 4.

No. Most teams do not have five starters with a career 116 ERA+. They just don't.

name 10 teams with 5 starters who are on par with wells. note: 10 is not "most teams" but if you can name 10, you at least might be onto something.

hint: you may just want to not do this and admit you were wrong.

Probably am wrong, although there probably are about 10. As I've stated in the past, as long as Wells is cheap and semi effective, I'm OK with him. Once he's up for a pay raise, I'd prefer some other team give it to him.

I'm actually confused here. On one hand, there's the Wells sucks camp. On the other, theres the Wells is good camp. I'm with the Wells is decent and cheap, but wouldn't want to offer him any kind of contract extension.

116 ERA+. 116. This is not some replacement level retread.
