bonus baby miguel sano has a .290/.351/.634/.984 line in the appy league with 20 home runs and 43 XBH's in 65 games.

Looks like those Miguel Cabrera comparisons weren't too far off.

Including the poor defense moving him to new position(s).

That wasn't much of a study. He just compared then on Fangraphs usiing a graph that works from their best season down.

Even then, Id be more than willing to take the risk. To me, Fielder is a legitimately elite bat and we'd be getting his prime years. I just dont see anyway signing him will end poorly unless something dramatically bad happens.

Maybe the Rays would make the playoffs if guys like Desmond Jennings and Matt Moore were up longer.

yeah... they've always been conservative with moving prospects up though. money probably had a lot to do with jennings coming up so late, but they really could've used more jennings and less fuld.

still, a rotation of shields, price, hellboy, moore and niemann or davis is pretty awesome.

http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=19529909&c_id=mlb - moore's 11 strikeouts. the hitters looked pretty bad on some of those swings. what stands out to me is how easy his delivery is, but then the ball just jumps out of his hand at 95 mph.

matt moore had his first mlb start tonight against the yankees - 5 ip, 4 h, 0 er, 1 bb, 11 k. bonerific.

I watched this start....pitcher porn. Moore is just filthy. He faced the Yankees' D lineup, but the fastball was consistently 94-95, he had a changeup, and while the breaking ball wasn't perfect when he buried it there was no shot. Definitely some scary good stuff and seeing what he can do over a full season will be interesting. If they make the playoffs he might play the same role Price played in '08.

Is there any chance that this is not the best rotation in the league next season? I mean Niemann at worst is a good #3.

Shields is a Cy-Young candidate and I think going forward he could be their #4. Is that even outrageous to say? Price, Hellboy, Moore in front of him?

It wouldn't really surprise me to see Tampa unload Shields this off-season and sell very high on him to help the offense/pen. I wonder what he could net them.

Price

Hellboy

Moore

Niemann

Davis

Is a more than fine rotation.

Two interesting notes from this Arizona/Dodgers game I am watching:

Dodgers relief pitcher Kenley Jansen - 96 Ks in 53 IP. He was a catcher two years ago ala Marmol. Pretty sick numbers. That K/9 has to be a record, no?

Jarrod Parker made his mlb debut: 5.2 IP / 4 hits / 0 R / 1 K / 1 BB. 73 pitches / 50 strikes. Pretty impressive.

Arizona has quite the young rotation going forward as well with Kennedy, Hudson, and now Parker.

Skaggs will beat Bauer, and be the best pitcher of the bunch. Calling it today so it can be forgotten tomorrow.

man, i have to say, i didn't see this coming from ian kennedy. i know his minor league numbers were pretty amazing, but the scouting reports weren't all that glowing, and i figured he was an advanced college arm who wouldn't be as good at higher levels. i thought he'd be a solid mid-rotation guy, but not a cy young contender.

Parker's girlfriend or sister, whoever was with his parents, is being marked down as hot.

That guy's got a really quick arm. I think next year his stuff will be a little more consistent than it was this year. Just reading the numbers and seeing last night's start you can tell that he's "only" most of the way back post-surgery.

The SAL was stacked this past season. Looking at BA's Top 20, here are the top 4:

Bryce Harper

Manny Machado

Jurickson Profar

Jameson Taillon

That's the top prospects in all of baseball along with the top 2 SS prospects in all of baseball in the same league.

Am I the only one who likes Profar more than Machado?

I saw Machado play a few times this year, and man, I think he's going to be something special. I think his glove is under-rated - hard for me to not see him as a good defensive player, perhaps plus, but not bad, as some suggested/thought.

It's a bit ridiculous to say this (acknowledging how stupid it sounds ahead of time), but boy, he really reminds me of a young Alex Rodriguez.

The Indians Top 30 from 2003 has produced 185.6 bWAR.

For comparison, the Cubs 2003 Top 10(well regarded, with Choi, Pie, Sisco, Guzman, etc) has produced 0.4 bWAR. I can't find the remainder of the Top 30, but I can't imagine that number improves too much, never mind by 185 wins.

To think...it'd be significantly higher if Sizemore hadn't flamed out.

That list of Cubs goes back to guys acquired while Hendry ran the farm, right? When did it go from Hendry to Stockstill?
