So, what's people's general take on the draft so far? I was commenting on it in another blog, and I thought it'd be curious to see what people thought of it. Overall, I don't know if I think this is a great draft, but I think it is a good draft for the system, if that makes sense. It potentially addresses power needs, and fills in some positional questions, which balances out the arm heavy draft from last year.

 

I like it but don't love it. Of course, snagging a few HS guys and bribing them away from college (a la McNutt) could change the looks of that considerably.

Guys like Wells and McNutt were taken pretty late, so I don't think it's too late for Wilken to add some good pitching tomorrow.

 

Wells wasn't late. Struck and Beeler, along with McNutt, have been our key late round over-slots from the last few years that are doing well in the minors right now.

 

I think he's referring to Randy Wells who went in the 38th round.

No, I actually meant Ben Wells. I always get him and Struck mixed up.

Matt Stities just went. I remember we offered him solid overslot money and he turned it down. Good luck getting more than that this time around.

 

Wait, was he a JUCO transfer? How is he eligible?

Yeah, he transferred from a JUCO to Mizzou.

 

He's a top 200 prospect per BA and can return for his senior year. He'll get paid.

I only know cursory stuff about Hoilman ... but hey ... here's hoping for a Bour, Ridling or a Cuneo, and not a Hoorelbeke or Keedy.

If we can sign Baez, Vogelbach, Maples, & Zych this is a great draft.

 

Really hope we can sign Maples. He really looks the part in his scouting video.

 

Does Maples qualify as a 2-sport guy where you can spread out the bonus? Or does he have to have a scholarship offer for football too? How does that work?
