6th round pick for the Cubs is Neftali Rosario, a Puerto Rican HS catcher.

BA's 7th best prospect in Puerto Rico:

Neftali Rosario has a good throwing arm, showing 1.9-second pop times, a solid body at 5-foot-11, 195 pounds, and surprising power, as he hit eight home runs this spring.

Ha! Trevor Gretzky

BA's 47th best prospect in California:

That belongs to Trevor Gretzky, son of Wayne, the greatest hockey player in history. Long-levered and projectable at 6-foot-4, 190 pounds, Gretzky has plenty of holes in his swing, and his feel for hitting needs to improve. But he does have power projection and natural hand-eye coordination. He's a poor runner who has a long way to go defensively at first base, and he's likely to wind up at San Diego State.

Taylor Dugas, CF from Alabama

BA's 7th best prospect in Alabama:

Outfielder Taylor Dugas was a first-team All-American in 2010, and at 5-foot-7, 165 pounds, he's a better college player than pro prospect. Hitting is his best skill. He has an excellent approach, having drawn 100 walks the last two seasons, and he earns comparisons to former Tide outfielder Emeel Salem, who reached Triple-A last season in the Rays system. Dugas is a slighlty above-average runner but plays a good center field. He's a tough profile whose arm is just fair, and his lack of power and game-changing speed limits him long-term.

At this point, I'm wondering if Fisher and Maples are basically unsignable?

There has to be something, but I still want the Cubs to take the chance.

Because there's no compensation for unsigned picks after the 3rd round, I think most teams feel safer going with relatively more signable guys in the early rounds after the 3rd. The logic being that you'd hate to blow, say, a 4th rounder on a tough sign when there's still good talent out there you're more likely to sign.

You think they drop outside the top 10 rounds now?

It's really just a game of chicken among the teams that are willing to spend at this point isn't it?

Pretty much.

Davell, I do think it's possible (obviously Fisher didn't). Alex Meyer fell to 18, Sonny Gray to 27. Last year, Kris Bryant fell to the 18th round and Dominic Ficociello fell to the 23rd. Of course none of them signed.

OF Garrett Schlect. What do you guys know about him? All I know is it's a weak Illinois class.

BA's 10th best prospect in Illinois:

Outfielder Garrett Schlecht has the best combination of talent and signability among Illinois high school players. More physical than Charlie Tilson at 6-foot-2 and 198 pounds, Schlecht has a quick lefthanded bat and consistently barrels balls. A Middle Tennessee State recruit, he's a decent athlete whose fringy speed and arm probably will relegate him to left field.

Schlecht ... I hope he doesn't live up to his name.

I'm not so sure about that honestly. Baez is probably slot, but Vogelbach isn't. Zych may not be either. Scott, Rosario, and Gretzky all could wind up being overslots, since they're top 10 round HS guys. I did just read that Schlect is signable though. But, I get the point and want us to spend on a bigtime guy that's left as well.

Maples has 2 plus pitches, but he may end up in the bullpen. Even so with his upside you have to take a risk on someone like that even if he is pricy.

"No one said we were drafting this kid to shore up our defense".

is that Hendry's bastard child?

SS Daniel Lockhart, HSer who's Keith Lockhart's son, also a Cub scout now.

I'm always skeptical that these types of things have more to do with being a favor then the kid's talent level. I would hope that's not the case this early in the draft.

Going to Kennesaw State, he's 5'11 and has more pop than you'd think from 155 pounds. Probably a utility guy, like his dad. (from PSD)
