At this point, I'm wondering if Fisher and Maples are basically unsignable?

There has to be something, but I still want the Cubs to take the chance.

Because there's no compensation for unsigned picks after the 3rd round, I think most teams feel safer going with relatively more signable guys in the early rounds after the 3rd. The logic being that you'd hate to blow, say, a 4th rounder on a tough sign when there's still good talent out there you're more likely to sign.

You think they drop outside the top 10 rounds now?

It's really just a game of chicken among the teams that are willing to spend at this point isn't it?

Maybe we're planning on going pitching heavy thru IFA?

Figured we'd have already taken at least one and probably 2 starters at this stage.

I half wonder if the loaded pitching at XST had them leaning towards filling positional holes earlier. I mean, we do have a lot of intriguing arms in XST that are poised for shortseason ball.

System seems very reminiscent of the 2003 system in that way. Here's hoping more arms turn out than that group did.

Who we got with decent upside down there?

Bats: Reggie Golden, Dong-Yub Kim, Willson Contreras, Pin-Chieh Chen, Dustin Geiger, Gioskar Amaya, Yaniel Cabeza, Marco Hernandez

Pitchers: Luis Liria, Ben Wells, Austin Reed, Yao-Lin Wang, Jin-Yeong Kim, Starling Peralta, Willengton Cruz

Plus a few interesting 6-figure bonus bats in the DSL.

How long has there been compensation for unsigned picks in rounds 2 and 3?

I think it's been in place since the last CBA.

Yeah, i guess so. I'd love to see how teams have their boards set up. Probably teams have lots of guys they just take completely off their lists. As far as the big spending teams, Pittsburgh has taken guys that are going to cost a ton, so has Washington and Toronto. Detroit has not done that so far, neither have the Yanks. Colorado hasn't either, but Boston has, of course. I can't think of any others though, who else typically spends big?

I think Baez is probably a slot guy, but Vogelbach seems like he's wanting a good amount(double slot or so) DeVoss probably is a slot guy and I could see Zych wanting more. Scott, as a 5th rounder with projection, probably will want more too.

Obviously kind of early, but with all the talk about how deep this draft was supposed to be, what is next year supposed to look like? Are there any without a doubt #1 type picks playing high school ball as a Junior? As far as I can tell, as of today the Cubs would have the 3rd pick in the draft next year, and not so far off from the first.

Considered weak right now, but it's early.

At least this kid doesn't need money.

Gretzky had strong ties to one owner who was arrested for financial shenanigans, had some sort of financial issues with the Coyotes and is dealing with a wife who has been tied to illegal gambling. So they are probably looking for all they can get.
