so, who do folks want for the 3rd round? I wouldn't mind a pitcher, but I still would like more power and Derek Fisher stands out to me. Granted, gonna be costly to buy him out of UVA.

No idea, but I would really like whoever the best player available is, regardless of cost.

Cubs on deck.

After leading the conference for most of the season in stolen bases and walks, the Mims, Florida native [DeVoss] drew three walks in three games, and led off all three games for the Hurricanes reaching base as the leadoff hitter. He collected two hits and a hit by pitch in the three games against North Carolina, Virginia and Wake Forest.

At least there's that.

Just watched video......wow. Dude is really big (sorta fat) and slow.

Matt Stairs?

What an ugly video. I'm pretty sure this guy is in my softball league. Very stiff swing.

I like the concept of an actual corner bat though. Any idea of signability?

didn't look stiff to me. looks pretty free and easy. in one of the highlights he takes a swing and fouls one off, less than 3 second later he was ripping a line drive.

I was referring to the video off the MLB website. The youtube ones offer a little different take.

Sorta looks like an Eric Patterson type

I'm assuming this is in reference to DeVoss. I think he's got a better approach than EPatt at the plate. He understands his game is small ball. I think he is also a better base runner than EPatt. I think DeVoss is closer to a Campana, perhaps with a bit better approach at the plate and a bit better of a threat with the bat, albeit, probably not as fast.

3 straight picks from the state of Florida? I wonder if Wilken even left home.

Anyways, he's BA's 21st best prospect in Florida and might be tougher to sign since he's a sophomore:

A somewhat polarizing player for scouts, DeVoss is an eligible sophomore who turned down a late-round offer from the Red Sox out of the 2009 draft. He was one of Miami's few impact offensive players in an up-and-down season, teaming with Melendres at the top of the lineup and setting the table ably, though his swing is inconsistent. He's not physical but is a good athlete who is less polished than the average college player in Florida. He's one of college baseball's faster runners, and his speed plays offensively. When he's going right he'll sting line drives to the gaps and put his speed to use on the basepaths. DeVoss played shortstop in high school and has shifted between left field and second base. He hasn't played center field much in deference to Melendres, making it difficult for scouts who think that's his best position. His speed and athleticism figure to make him the first Miami player off the board.

Would have watch their game a bit closer a few days ago had I known they'd take him...
