The IsoD for Daytona's left side of the infield is...odd: Lake is rolling with a .001 while Cerda has a .112.

Also Logan Watkins is now hitting .132 on the season.

i really wish we would give big-ass bonuses to players who most scouts actually believe are worth that kind of money. i'm getting pretty tired of the cubs dumping big cash on the jeff samardzija/drew rundle/chris huseby/logan watkins types and having them come up bust.

I kind of disagree with this actually. I'm not about to deny the lack of success of these guys, but it's obviously hit and miss, so I figure that we're due for one or two of the big overslots to work out soon, so I hope we spend away. :D

To be fair, Drew Rundle was considered a 2nd or 3rd round talent.

to be fair, it's a bit early to consider Shark a complete bust, too.

I have been getting cautiously optimistic about him lately. I doubt he'll ever live up to the contract he was given, but he could prove to be a solid compliment to our steller back of the pen.

McNutt was scheduled, and is on five days. But now Chen is listed instead.

Is there anything wrong with him, or is it just a scheduling error?

It's not a scheduling error because Hung-Wen Chen isn't normally a starter.

Could be that blister bothering him again. I remember when one of those kept Wood out of action for a little while in '08.

good start so far for nick struck: 6 ip, 3 h, 0 r, 3 bb, 7 k.

jae-hoon ha is 1-2 with a double and another walk - really happy to see him coming on in that area.

Struck has quietly gotten off to a real strong start this season.

except we spent teixeira/prior money to get him away from football, so you're really hoping for more than a middle reliever there

Wait, when did Huseby and Watkins become huge reaches for their bonus amounts?

Angel Guzman update:

Arizona Phil[/url]"]Angel Guzman (2010 shoulder surgery rehab) got the start for the Cubs and went more than one inning for the first time since his surgery. The right-hander breezed through his first inning of work, throwing an 11-pitch 1-2-3 1st inning (F-7, K, 4-3), but then he began to falter in his second inning (F-8, BB, 2B, 4-3, BB), throwing 20 pitches (but only ten strikes) before being relieved with two outs, one run in, and runners at the corners.

Gooz was quite obviously frustrated with his inability to throw strikes in the 2nd inning, cursing himself when he bounced his final pitch (a curve) into the dirt on a 3-2 pitch for ball four. While he has his fastball velocity up to 92 MPH, he also has control lapses from time-to-time, especially if he has to throw more than a dozen pitches in an inning. So don’t expect to see Angel Guzman in Chicago anytime soon.

Wait, when did Huseby and Watkins become huge reaches for their bonus amounts?

Huseby landed the most stunning bonus in the 2006 draft, signing for an 11th-round-record $1.3 million after barely pitching as a high school senior.

The biggest surprise the Cubs pulled in the 2008 draft came when they gave Watkins, a 21st-rounder, a $500,000 bonus. He received some predraft buzz, but not nearly enough to indicate that a team would spend third-round money to lure him away from a Wichita State scholarship.

do you have any links to sites suggesting that huseby and watkins were widely regarded as first- and third-round talents, respectively?

As a side note, I didn't recall seeing anything on Muschko being released, so I asked AzPhil, and he noted that Craig was set to sign a contract in Japan before the earthquake hit, but it fell through when that happened and his status is up in the air.

Was having a chat with mlp the other day about Watkins over at Bruce Miles blog, and he seemed to catch Watkins when he swung the bat well and showed some pop. I'm not too hopeful there, and would rather see Cerda at 2nd, but that potential probably explains why the Cubs still have a high view of Watkins (reportedly).

I could be mistaken on Watkins, but for some reason, I thought/seem to recall that he was a case where no one really expected him to really go pro, and as such, the buzz wasn't as high. Now, I don't think he was anywhere near a 3rd round cost, but overslotting isn't a direct reflection of talent. My memory may be slipping on this, but for some reason, I seemed to think he was viewed as a 10-15 round type.
