good start so far for nick struck: 6 ip, 3 h, 0 r, 3 bb, 7 k.

jae-hoon ha is 1-2 with a double and another walk - really happy to see him coming on in that area.

Struck has quietly gotten off to a real strong start this season.

Furthermore, he's doing this as a 21 year old in A+. Pretty dang impressive, getting his fair share of groundballs, and getting a solid K amount. His breaking ball is supposedly sharper than it was last year. A long way to go, but if he keeps performing anywhere near what he's done so far, I'd be very intrigued to see him in AA late this year.

Kirk should really get some love. Sure, his ceiling isn't huge, but he's put together a dang solid start to the year.

Wait, when did Huseby and Watkins become huge reaches for their bonus amounts?

Huseby landed the most stunning bonus in the 2006 draft, signing for an 11th-round-record $1.3 million after barely pitching as a high school senior.

The biggest surprise the Cubs pulled in the 2008 draft came when they gave Watkins, a 21st-rounder, a $500,000 bonus. He received some predraft buzz, but not nearly enough to indicate that a team would spend third-round money to lure him away from a Wichita State scholarship.

do you have any links to sites suggesting that huseby and watkins were widely regarded as first- and third-round talents, respectively?

Hmm, didn't remember that. Still, when it comes to buying guys out of school, surprising numbers don't necessarily mean that's because they don't think they were talented enough to be slotted where they were.

McNutt was scheduled, and is on five days. But now Chen is listed instead.

Saw this just now after his previous start:

Smokies Radio Network[/url]"]Trey McNutt left the game with an apparent injury to his throwing hand. At this time, it is unknown what the specific injury or if he will even miss a start.
