When the offense fails inning after inning to get a big hit to blow the game open, this is what you deserve.

You're kidding right? Yes, they missed some opportunities, but ultimately they scored 5 runs, and 4 of those came off of the guy that half the people in this thread were [expletive] their pants over the Cubs having to face him. How about Coleman and and Wood don't give up 6 [expletive] runs to a team that amounts to little more than Fielder-Braun-Weeks and a collection of hot garbage?

Yeah, while its sucks that the offense is not getting going consistently, but as long as they keep getting people on they will keep scoring and start having more big innings.

How about this team stop being so damn stupid in pitching strategy when facing a team that has 3 players that can beat you?

Hold on, I was taking a huge [expletive] during the top of the 9th, so I missed it; Byrd hit his way on...and then Quade had him try and steal with Aramis at the plate?

Some people think based on body language that Byrd went on his own.

I had hopes the Cubs would be a surprise team this year, but so far it looks like 2010 all over again.

The stolen base attempt by Byrd was laughable, but there were plenty of chances to score earlier in the game.

Yep, base loaded one out and only 1 run seriously, does anyone remember the last time a Cub got a hit with the bags jacked to break open a game? Happened in 2008 didn't it?

Whoever made the decision...just awful.

I thought the Byrd steal "attempt" was a blown hit and run, for what it's worth...did you see the pitch Ramirez swung at? It sure looked like he was trying to protect to me...

Really? You don't remember the last time the Cubs got a hit with the bases loaded?

What a fine day in Chicago sports. Only win the most meaningless of the 3 games.

Good series, but poor way to finish it. Just win 2/3 next series and we'll be fine.

1 out of 3 is NOT a good series.

Sure but it was almost 2/3. Play this way most series and you win 2/3, so I'm not all that upset. It's a long ass season so all I'm really worried about right now is overall decent play.

Almost means nothing in the standings.

I agree. But in 162 game season, there is a million opportunities to make up for a blown game or whatever. I thought the Cubs were a 75-80 win team going into this season but what I am seeing is consistent hitting (other than last night), acceptable starting pitching, and we'd be 6-3 if i weren't for our strong back end of the pen blowing 2 games. The 8th and 9th guys arent going to blow 2 out of every 9 games.

So to me, this is a positive start for the season, if not frustrating of course. But starting 4-5 doesnt take you out of any playoff race at all. Starting 9-0 doesn't guarantee you a playoff spot. I'm just trying to glass half full it because overall I see a lot of good things.

Get outta here with that common sense.

The blame deserves to be spread all around.

Yes, the offense scored five runs, but they got on base 17 times (including six doubles, five off Gallardo) and had a runner on base in all nine innings (including six leadoff and with none or one out in all nine) and only scored five runs. Could have easily been more.

Wood definitely pitched poorly but I think a lot of people would have taken Coleman only giving up four runs through five innings today.

The offense blew chances to break the game open and the pen (re: Wood) blew the game late.

Well the good news is we get to play Houston now.

Anything less than a sweep that means that the Cubs will be .500 or below through the first 12 games with almost the easiest possible schedule. I suppose you can call that good news if you want!

Even the best offenses are going to leave runs on the table that they "should have scored" in most of their games. 5 runs out of 17 chances (if you're making "chances" only guys who got on base) is typically more than enough.

No, I am not kidding. They let the Brewers stay in the game because the offense did not get a key hit with runners on base the last 5 innings.

While the offense scored 5 runs, they should have had more. Did you watch the game? When you have a leadoff double and then the guy on 3rd with one out and don't score that is bad. Then you have 1st and 2nd no outs and don't score, that is bad. Then you have the bases loaded with one out against the immortal Kameron Loe and only score one run in a tie game. Any way you cut it, the offense could have made this a lot easier on the bullpen.

I agree that the pitching wasn't good enough, but I don't know how you can think scoring 5 today, given the opportunities they had, was a good enough either.

Actually I was being fictious, do remember Theriot hitting a GS in 2009.

AN OFFENSE THAT GETS ON BASE A LOT IS ALWAYS GOING TO HAVE RUNS THEY SHOULD HAVE SCORED BUT DIDN'T.

True, but going 2 for 17 with RISP in a game where you have double digit hits is unusual.

The offense played well today but just didn't get the key hits. It's frustrating but not really a big deal. Just hope to not get an above average share of these types of games because the team cannot afford it.

Even with the Astros being a very poor team I don't think a sweep is possible, 2 of 3 yes but, a sweep no.

Pena has been great defensively, offensivly he's been terrible. All I remember him doing is that 2 run double off the wall. Thats about it. Hopefully he can atleast contribute a little bit and pick it up soon

The Byrd stolen base attempt in the 9th was idiotic.

You only remember that double because that's the only thing of note he's done this season. He's 1-10 with runners on.

I think that's something everyone can agree on.

He's only had 11 at-bats against right-handers so far. I'm not worried about him just yet. Plus he's walking like he's supposed to and just hasn't hit the home runs yet to supplement his high strikeout tendency. He's going to be a guy who fails to get the job done a lot..that's just part of who he is even when he's going good.

I was at the game. It sucked. I liked that we scored 4 off of Gallardo and were actually making him work, but scoring 1 run off of the crap that came after him was not cool. Nor was the Ramirez out at the plate or the 2 caught stealings, especially the 1 in the 9th.

Although kudos to Ryan Dempster for getting a fan for life. A dad was there with his son at his first Cubs game and Demp came over and made sure the kid got an autograph before the game.

There were a TON of drunken idiots in my section-- both Cubs and Brewers fans alike. I guess that's to be expected with the two most alcohol-loving fanbases in baseball. Some Brewers fan shoved me pretty hard outside the game (I was wearing my Santo shirt) and I damn near went after him. Although I'm glad I didn't, because I probably would have gotten arrested.

And traffic getting out of the game was the worst I've ever seen getting out of a Cubs/Brewers game, and I've been to at least a dozen.

Also, any word on Fukudome after leaving the game after that running catch?
