The one and two win Big Ten seasons Northwestern used to specialize in? The Big Ten is filled with some really strong coaches at the best programs -- and Illinois is likely to upgrade their coaching position this offseason (if it were me, I'd go after Buzz Williams) -- and I fail to see much room for upward mobility for Northwestern. I see more room for downward mobility: Iowa is improving and Nebraska is, at least, improving their facilities.

I agree with this. Given the current state of the conference, that's a tough job to sell right now.

One of my co-workers read somewhere (on some Illini forum) that Thad Matta has an opt-out clause if the head coaching spot opened at Illinois. Neither of us could find any legitimacy to that claim though.

Well, that certainly isn't true.

Thanks Ron Guenther, Thad wasn't ready for a big gig......

Was Matta interviewed when they hired Weber?

RG was always very secretive, to this day i don't think anyone knows who all was interviewed for the job.

matta was the favorite of many people and the illini undoubtedly could have had him.

Well, if Indiana wasn't going to lose by 50, the next best case scenario was having Verdell Jones hit some big shots down the stretch so he thinks he's not the worst player in the state of Indiana next game.

tom crean is kept alive by a steady diet of liquefied pond lichen.

He's somehow uglier than Zeller...who for some reason just checked into a game with 2 seconds left with a 6 point lead.

I'm pretty sure they built in a shock collar to his shoulder brace. No worries.

Any way I could petition for him to be granted a 5th year of eligibility?

Good lord he oozes cool in his pre game talks.

His lack of cool is the least of his problems as a head coach.

Now that we have Jerrance I agree. It was a big problem early on. See our '08 recruiting class.
