Leonard averages 20-10 vs Iowa, and they call him soft.

That's what I love about Iowa fans. Give them an inch of success and they get cocky/mouthy as hell. Growing up amidst that is what has made me hate Iowa so.

Because most of the time we were guarding him with a 6'7 guy who will be playing about 10 minutes per game next year.

it's hard to even get up hatred for iowa anymore.

When two gingers are running wild on you along with a really goofy looking 7 footer, you'll get it back.

but i'll admit, fran's doing a great job and i like him as a coach, they did a great job with that hire. iowa will never challenge for big ten titles with consistency, though. we all should be worried about that veritable fab 5 they have coming in next year.

They've got 4-Star guys coming in at their two biggest positions of need....

Honest question, what is it about Howard that most Illini fans I know consider him to be such a prize? I'm not dogging him, I know he's a former player, is it all recruiting related?

Did he play in the 2nd half today?

Never saw him.

LOL. It is mind boggling the way they ignored him when he destroyed us in the first 3 halves and we had the same personnel on him. Iowa did pressure the ball more though and I thought he quit fighting for position when he wasn't getting touches.

If the rest of the season is any indication, he probably had played the entire game and had 2 guys on him the entire time. That tends to exhaust a 19 year old.

I have no idea what to expect of Woodbury next year because big guys are such a crapshoot as freshmen. The one thing that's encouraging early is how he got a top 50 ranking. He doesn't have anywhere near the upside of guys like Leonard or other 7 footers who are raw skill-wise early on but have athleticism and a body. He's really skilled with both hands right now. Short arms for a 7 footer and can't jump but he's a good passer and crafty in the post.

Gesell is going to be a stud and far more of an impact guy early on. I think he's more of a top 60-75 guy. ESPN had him there earlier, think he's around 80 or so now.

The other two guards will really upgrade the athleticism, depth and perimeter D. Add them with some decent returning core pieces and I think they'll finally have middle of the pack B1G talent for the first time in 6-7 years.

the illini have a bunch of 4-star guys all over their roster and the best pg and sg in the state (as juniors in a stacked class) coming in in 2013. big whoop, you don't see us talking much about it.

That was all we heard about for the last 4 years.

Thanks for answering. I'll just assume he is a legend in Illini mind only then.

i have no idea what he does as far as coaching goes. he's been extremely instrumental on the recruiting trail and everyone from chicago to downstate loves him. that's a powerful assistant to have on your bench and the reason why we all want to retain him.

Basically, prior to Howard, the best recruiting talent Weber could land was Jamar Smith and Chester Frazier. However, those teams also overperformed. So, Howard is bringing in fantastic talent, but Weber hasn't been able to use it well.

Hopes are that a new coach and a new offensive scheme that actually utilizes the talent would be a good thing, and Howard would continue to facilitate that talent rolling in, instead of watching it leave for Duke/UNC/Kentucky/Kansas all the time.

What's wrong with Jay Simpson? Hopefully his career will be as bad against Illinois as LewJack's was.
