Yep, the Morris twins are gone. Never would've thought they would go league early when we first got them. Should be an interesting year next year for KU hoops.

dont worry, you have selby

haha, i know you're making fun of him, but I think he's gone, too.

why wouldn't he? When you can wrap the skills of an athletic 2-guard in the body of a point guard, erase all defensive skills and anything resembling a midrange game, you don't just stay in college.

lmao. that should be his bio at KUathletics. I still think he could be a good player if he stuck around. He was dinged up this year, which hurt his mobility. But yeah, I think rivals swung and missed rating him the #1 prospect.

I think you could argue he wasn't as good as Willie Warren.

Now more than ever I want Thompson and Hamilton to return. Texas could maybe win the league barring another 2nd half choke job.

When is the deadline to declare?

I dunno, Morningstar has whatever Chris Weinke had to be able to play 13 seasons, so I don't think Texas is yet in the clear.

Does KU have a shortage of scholarships or something? McLemore, Tharpe and probably Porter? That's it?

They only have 3 seniors, so it's probably difficult to go too hard on other guys without knowing if the Morii or Selby were coming back. They are in on some more guys than just those 3 though.

No, they have 6 to give, 7 if Selby leaves. (Morningstar, Reed, Little, Morris, Morris, Teahan, Selby). Self has just swung and missed on essentially every recruit he's tried to get this year. He only wants to use 4 this year, so the best case scenario is McLemore, Tharpe, Porter, and Deandre Daniels.

But I think Porter still goes to MU, and I think Daniels goes to Duke. In that case, you have Tharpe, McLemore, and the 2 warmest bodies they can turn up. And our frontcourt next year becomes Robinson, Withey, and...well that's about it.

Self hasn't had this issue in the past. He recruited Deron Williams and Dee Brown to Illinois when Frankie Willimas still had one year left. I think there is more to Self struggling with recruiting now than this.

the price of gas is really high, maybe he had to switch from a dump truck full of cash to a prius

Thompson and Hamilton from UT declare for draft per barking carnival. If true, the Big 12 will be really bad next year. There will be a serious dearth of talent.

No, in all seriousness I would think there are a couple of reasons why.

1. Cal ending up at Kentucky. They go after the same guys, Cal does whatever it takes to get the top guy. Before when he was at Memphis, some of the elite recruits weren't as easily sold on Cal, they weren't playing in a major conference. When he went to UK it hurt Kansas.

2. The perception that Self isn't good at prepping kids for the NBA. I don't agree with this one as I think he has done a good job of developing some kids. The Morri, Darnell Jackson, and Cole Alrdich come to mind. But, the elite top of the line talent see the supposed one and done guys; Rush, Arthur, and Selbys struggle in year one and have to stick around. Plus a lot of their pros of late have underperformed where they were drafted. Brandon Rush, Darrel Arthur, Julian Wright, Cole Ardich, Xavier Henry, etc. That whole group really hasn't made a large mark on the NBA.

3. The perception that KU rarely plays to seed in the NCAA tournament. Whereas UK, Duke, and UnC generally tend to go farther and play closer to their seed.

I only agree with the first one, but feel that the others play into why Self has struggled of late getting the one and done guys. I don't get why he isn't going after more 4 stars. He does a lot better with them anyways.

I think that analysis is pretty accurate, though I think the one that's missing is the perception that Self has a team-oriented system that restricts star talent and doesn't allow them to shine/take over game. That to me is perhaps the most damaging perception to his recruiting.

Time for the Aggies to step up and take the crown away from the Jayhawks. :)

I'm still holding out hope as BC reported that on the 8th. Thompson really has no business going yet as he will be a long project for whoever. Hamilton should call Avery Bradley and ask how the 2 minutes a game is going for him in the NBA.
