Do I have to wait for 5 starts before I can put Cashner in at SP? He's currently not eligible, but I can't put him at RP because he was named 5th starter.

It's currently showing to be just 1 start to be eligible there or 5 starts last year for SP's. To change that to zero would make all pitchers eligible at SP, and I don't know that we want that.

I haven't found a place to specify eligibility individually yet, otherwise I would do that for any player who is clearly going to be switching from RP to SP or SP to RP.

Actually don't believe I have the ability to change it individually. Might have to tough it out for 1 start.

if you go to Raw's roster and click the "C" button next to position, it will let you place the player at any position for eligibility.

That worked. I'll make an announcement about changing other people. I'm golfing most of the day tomorrow and then after golf cocktails, so I might need you to set some people before Thursday if anyone else wants to do these obvious position changes.

No worries.

My roster is legal.

I have 8 starters. I am not actively trading at the moment (I want to see how my players start the year first in order to assess needs), but I may be willing to trade a starter in order to upgrade elsewhere.

I have 10 starting pitchers!

(of course, 4 are on the mlb dl)

so let's say i go the firesale route and have a lot of prospects and not a lot of major league players. can i have, say, 15 minor leaguers but only 10 occupying the minor league allocations, and then another 5 either on my benches or in the lineups? (where they will obviously be generating 0 points)

There's no issue with minor leaguers occupying the bench during the season. If you try to carry them over into next year, they would count against your 10 keepers at the major league level if you've got your 10 minor league slots filled.

Not sure about the major league active roster. There are no rules against it, but it doesn't feel right.

well i'd basically be playing a forfeit lineup. my team isn't good this year, at least when i compare it to other teams in the league. the downside to trading a player like halladay is that my team sucks and while a lot of people can't afford to keep him at 800 points or whatever, i shouldn't have a problem.

I wish I thought of having minor league rosters in my active lineup the final week of last year. I could have lost when I needed to and been in position to draft (or trade) Bryce Harper. :D

The whole concept of playing in a fantasy league is to put a competitive team on the field. Taking over a team is hard, and many of the managers in this league have done so at one point or another, including me.

None of the previous managers have given up on their teams in the past to the point they don't fill their line up with active major league talent, even when it was clear they were out of the race.

If Experiencing Turbulence were to consider doing this, I'd wish to vote to not allow it. While I can certainly appreciate getting a head start on being more competitive in future years, using positions in active line ups for the sole purpose of storing extra prospects isn't why we are here to play this game.

I just looked over the line up, and it's got lots of premium talent and can easily be not only competitive, but make a few trades to strengthen the line up enough for a chance at playoffs.

Halladay, Lackey, Victor Martinez, Markakis, Marcum, Starlin Castro, Papelbon is pretty solid.

What three starts need to be removed for Chuck's team?

And which two starts need to be removed from Bob's team?

Glad to see that neither of these impacted the actual results. I wasn't around and I'm going to have to manually figure out the points that need to be deducted for guys who pitched more than once in the last week and a half. But, I need to know who the pitchers were.

Nevermind. I went in and figured it out myself, but I've now wasted most of my morning attempting to figure out what pitchers pitched, for what teams and then calculate how many points needed to be adjusted. Not fun.

I took off 18 points from Experiencing Turbulence for the Niemann and Garcia starts and 20 points for the Zambrano, Chacin and Danks starts.

In the future, it would be extremely helpful if someone goes over in starts, someone posts who the pitcher was, what team he pitches for and what day he pitched. If it was Halladay or some other well known starter, I probably don't need the assistance. But I don't know who Joulys Chacin or R. Dickey pitch for and I don't really care, and I definitely don't feel like having to find out so that I can figure out what box score to look for.

Truffle, a couple of things. No matter how you did the first week, you don't want to wave the white flag already. Give yourself a few weeks to see if your squad can turn it around (as bukie mentioned). Plus, while it might not be against the rules, it does feel ethically wrong to tank and toss up 0-point players.

Also, you probably don't want to just acquire minor league talent. Future draft picks and exempt players are far more valuable (imo) than all but the best minor leaguers. Good exempt players are the most valuable commodity in this league.

it's one week into the season. do you really hate fun so much that you want to conduct a fire sale on april 11?

Perhaps I just have a different idea of what's fun than you do. To me, building a team that will be very strong for years to come is more fun than eking out a 9th place finish in a 16 team league.

With a 2000 point cap and only so many talented prospects that end up staying talented in the bigs, it's difficult to build a team that will stay competitive for years to come. You only get to keep 10 keepers each year, also. While we do have exempt players and a minor league system, this league was designed with playing major league fantasy baseball in mind. Use the minor league system and exempt players to build on this year's team and next. Not just next year's. If you are not going to make the playoffs, sure, sell off what you can.

This is true. In this league, it's best to stay as competitive as possible. It's also more fun and gives leverage in trades. In 2009, my team was 8-14. I got in position in July to trade for Posey and a draft pick, and a couple other little deals. I won the league in 2010.

I would be strongly opposed to blowing up a team to load up on prospects.

In fact, no one will ever win this league loading up on prospects. You become the Marlins. To me, it can only be done with a good draft, good trades, a few strong minors players that come up and cost nothing, and then some luck.

good luck doing that solely with minor leaguers. i mean, a few teams have tried doing that before and it helped me win a bunch of championships, so go crazy i guess. the less competition the better.
