I wish you all could listen when Hrabosky starts talking about Theriot.

Give us a sample.

During a Theriot at bat last night the radio guys actually said "He'll take some pitches. He's 3-18 but he's only struck out once!"

I would support Cubs fans throwing bags of poop at Theriot this week. It would give the announcers something else to talk about when discussing him, since we're getting perilously close to the .300 slugging mark.

among Cardinals middle infielders.

Actually, my fear is more that the doofus Cubs fans will cheer him like hes Greg [expletive] Maddux.

Just this week?

I doubt there will be many Cubs fans in Cincinnati this weekend, so tomorrow through Thursday seems to be the best bet.

In my limited Wrigleyville experience since Theriot was first on the team, it really seemed like way too many people harbored a severely irrational love for Theriot. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get an ovation this week.

However, credit to Brenly for forcing an opportunity in the Sunday game to bring up Theriot's remarks about "finally being on the right side of the rivalry," and all but instructing the fans who go to the game to give him the cold welcome he deserves.

I need one of two things to happen:

1. Theriot flunks a drug test

2. A video of Theriot sympathizing with the Taliban is found

It'd be easier to just make him start riding home from the bars with La Russa.

he hasn't even been that bad this year. the cards have had by far the best offense in the NL, despite pujols playing far below his ability (the reason, of course, is that berkman has turned into steroids-era sosa and matt holliday is playing like ted williams, not to mention david freese and his babip near .500)

We're still early enough in the season where Theriot will be able to slap a few singles and get his OPS back to .700, but he's been a pretty unremarkable player. He's hitting .287/.341/.320 right now and I feel pretty comfortable saying that's where he ends up. When factoring in his shitty defense, we're looking at a replacement-level player. That would be more than enough to stomach if Theriot was making peanuts, but he's getting $3.3 million to provide chemistry. No matter how many times we're assured by Al Hrabosky that we shouldn't worry about Theriot because that one time he had a good walk rate and he probably had a tough at-bat against Brad Lidge, there are still some of us who know what he is.

Also, it would be less annoying if the little [expletive] didn't think of himself as Ozzie Smith at shortstop.

All undersized white players get unwarranted love. And I wouldn't be surprised if he gets an ovation, either.

If Theriot gets an ovation, they should tear Wrigely down. I'm not joking.

They should tear down Wrigley either way.

You still watch with the sound up? Hrabosky and Dan might be the worst broadcast duo in MLB. It's like the Cards are directing traffic to KMOX.

The arbitration probably didn't help his sentiments toward the club either.

you mean the case where theriot's dire pursuit of recognition pushed negotiations to arbitration with a team whose current front office had not had a single other player dispute fairness of offered contract dollars? when this happened it was plain what kind of individual theriot at least was (and seemingly still is). fitting that he wind up in st louis.

.278/.325/.338

Only four months until the Cardinals give him a 2/$10m contract.

-19.8 UZR/150

-16 DRS

Both are worst in MLB. Fangraphs has him at 0.1 WAR and B-Ref has him at -0.5.

Weren't Luhnow/Mozeliak supposed to be big on numbers and low on grit?

Luhnow's a numbers guy but is the MiLB director. I'm pretty sure Mozeliak is just LaRussa's bitch.
