Some speculation on profootballtalk, via SBnation, via a bit of speculation on Chalk Talk on Chicagobears.com, that the Bears might be interested in Santana Moss.

Zero facts involved, but hey...not like there's a lot else to talk about.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/06/08/bears-potential-suitors-for-santana-moss/

Why not bring in another midget receiver, he'll fit right in!

I know. Can never be an elite offense with WRs 6' and under right?

If you completely ignore the post-Moss Patriots, Steelers, 00's Rams, recent Colts teams, and current Eagles team.

But Santana Moss is probably the best old stopgap WR out there. No baggage. Consistent recent history of actually performing. The Bears could do a lot worse. I'd rather them get someone that is younger and can grow with the rest of the WRs, yet already established as a NFL threat. But I'd be OK with Santana.

“There’s nothing normal about the lockout and not being with your team — you always want to be with your team and be preparing for the season,” Briggs said, adding that once the lockout ends the Bears will be, “Championship like — world championship like.”

Braylon Edwards - WR - Jets Comcast SportsNet Chicago's John "Moon" Mullin suggests free agent Braylon Edwards as a possible Bears target when the lockout ends.

Mullin expects the Bears to make a "quick play" for wide receiver help when free agency opens, and says Edwards has "quietly become the most intriguing name" for Chicago. At 28 years old and 6-foot-3, 215, Edwards would help solve the Bears' need for a tall, playmaking wideout to book end deep threat Johnny Knox. It's worth noting that Bears GM Jerry Angelo was said to be very interested in Edwards prior to the 2005 draft. There was also an internet rumor that the Bears had traded for Edwards in 2009.

During a recent visit to NFL Network, Dhani Jones, Bengals linebacker, was asked to list the top 10 linebackers in the league. Per the Chicago Tribune, Jones put himself at No. 7 — and left Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher off the list.

Asked about the omission of Urlacher, Jones said, “When’s the last time Brian Urlacher got off a block?“

Asked on ESPN 1000 in Chicago about Bears president Ted Phillips saying the grass at Soldier Field gives the Bears a home-field advantage, Urlacher said that’s not true, and in reality the grass at Soldier Field is “a disaster.”

“The weather I think is the biggest advantage we have against teams that don’t play in our weather,” Urlacher said, via Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com. “But we’re a fast defense. You put us on that FieldTurf eight home games a year? We’re going to be really fast. You put [Julius] Peppers on that turf? [Devin] Hester, with all those cuts on turf? [Johnny] Knox? All those guys. We’re going to be a little better, I think. Faster.”

"Thats the thing they said about (defensive end) Julius Peppers, too: he doesn't work hard. That was so far from the truth. He butted his butt every day in practice ... played hard, played 90 percent of the snaps on defense ... just awesome."

Seems like that might be uncomfortable.

It's gonna suck when management doesn't add a legit WR.

I still maintain that this would be perfectly fine, if they had more talent at RB and/or more ability on the line. But even after adding another 1st round linemen they still are very questionable at multiple positions (potentially all 5 actually), and they are steady but far from spectaculiar at RB. Without some a serious talent upgrade, they are still putting all the pressure on Cutler with very limited weapons.

Maybe they should just do WR because its only one player, and I'm starting to doubt whether current management can handle revamping the whole line.

Saw a "rumor" talking about how the Bears should go after Steve Smith. They said that even though he's 32, he would fit well into Martz's offense and that he still has a lot left in the tank. He apparently wants traded to a contender.

2 years ago, I'd be all for this... the age scares me a little bit.

I mean its another small (5-9) WR. And one past slightly past his prime and oft injured.

I'd rather take a chance on Burress than Smith. Fitting people into Martz offense that may be gone in a year just doesn't weigh as heavily to me.

It's still all predicated on the offensive line. I can't wait for this lockout to end and the quick FA signings as a result.

It's not "all" on the offensive line. The receivers have proven over and over again that they can't get open against DBs who are good and paying attention. Check all the Packers games from last year. It was a minor miracle for the WRs to even get their hands on the ball.

Meh, I'm not gonna debate about all - that wasn't the point. Talent is needed everywhere (especially WR)

But another season of Cutler getting sacked at a ridiculous pace can't happen, no matter who is at WR. It won't take long before his body can't take it anymore, not a good plan for the franchise QB.

A QB can survive and thrive while getting knocked around if he has top end talent at WR.

John Harbaugh is still mad at the Bears about that draft day trade debacle....

“I’m not buying a ‘mistake’ thing. They knew what they were doing,” Harbaugh said on “The Waddle and Silvy” Show on 1000 AM in Chicago.

“They agreed to [trade] a pick. They got their guy [tackle Gabe Carimi] on the phone. They recognized he wasn’t getting calls from the team behind them,” Harbaugh said. “And then they basically stalled for over a minute, telling us that they had called the trade in. So that was just not honest.

“That’s not OK. It’s not ethical, it’s not right. I personally agree with our owner [steve Bisciotti] that they should have been held accountable for it. We basically took them at their word, and obviously that was a mistake.”

I'm hoping we can screw Jim in next year's draft. I realize he was probably the best Bears post-McMahon and pre-Cutler QB but those two brothers are [expletive] assholes.
