the packers picked a good opponent to have if you're going to have next to no running game. pitt was easily the best team in the league at defending the run, so abandoning it wasn't going to hurt gb that much.

I think Mike Lombardi brought that up on one of Bill Simmons' podcasts last week, mentioning that it was unfortunate for Pittsburgh that their biggest strength would basically be wasted in this game.

I'm sure that's true, but still -- RB surely cannot be considered a need for this team when they just showed they can run a road schedule all the way to the Super Bowl and then win it with Starks + all the top-notch passing game options they have.

Obviously they would benefit from a better back, as all teams would.

if you have an elite QB, good offensive line and good WR, a having a good RB really doesn't matter. your OL will open up holes, linebackers will be back on their heels to defend the pass and the safeties can't come up to help. peyton manning had edgerrin james for a while, but none of his other RBs have been anything special. tom brady's backfield has been a revolving door.

it should be noted that peyton didn't win a super bowl until edgerrin james was gone.

Neither myself nor dew is saying that Ben isn't a good quarterback. We're saying that many people put way too much emphasis (not just for Ben) on Super Bowl wins when evaluating how good a QB is, ignoring the fact (much like in baseball), that football is a team game and a lot more goes into to who wins than just how the quarterbacks played.

It goes the other way also. Now all of a sudden people think Rodgers is an elite QB solely because he won the Super Bowl while ignoring the fact that he's been a top-five QB in the league from 08-10.

Exactly. More specifically, I was talking about his specific Super Bowl numbers. Even when he plays poorly, he gets credit for "winning" the Super Bowl - even though his defense and running game carried him to the win.

The most noteworthy thing for me with the Packers is the fact that they've got a goose that lays golden eggs in the pocket.

Focus your energy on protecting that concuss-able cranium of his.

2006 was Addai's best year, however, with 4.8 ypc. Not a huge part of the offense, but still productive when he got touches. A good RB isn't necessary if you've got a great passing game, but it does have its importance.

Also, there aren't that many great passing offenses out there. The Packers, Patriots and Colts can do it, but very few others can.

and if barnett doesn't go down, bishop doesn't get his chance.

i'm having a completely impossible time trying to follow your bizarre narrative at this point. the Packers got lucky because they lost no irreplaceable players, because their backups were so good?

lets see:

Jarrod Mayo

James Harrison

Brady James

Bart Scott

Patrick Willis

Ray Lewis

What do they have in common? All better then the so called "among the best in the league" Bishop.

i'll defer to guys who've watched every snap of every game on this one:

meh, their explanations dont do much for me

the explanations aren't really the crux of the point, they've done constant rankings throughout the entire season and that was just a brief summary of why he ranked 2nd best for their NFC ILB rankings

The emergence of Desmond Bishop as an every-down linebacker has also been a huge help for Green Bay. Bishop has the kind of speed and athleticism that allows him shoot gaps and run sideline to sideline, cutting through traffic and making stops.
Since he took over from Nick Barnett, Bishop is still to have a bad game.

between the white sox, the cardinals, and the packers, it's pretty brutal rooting against three teams with such ingrained white trash fan bases and players.

What good is a sports network if they have graphics with numerous errors like this one?

man Rodgers is a giant douche.

I'm curious to hear your explanation, because by all accounts he's a nice guy. He doesn't get in trouble, he doesn't have 12 children running around, he's not whoring himself out to the media. If you want to let loose on Favre for being a douchebag, go right ahead, but Rodgers really has not done anything deserving of douchedom.

Almost all of my Bears friends actually like Rodgers because he appears to be the opposite of Favre.

What I hate most about Rodgers is the fact that he is a Packer, and thinking back he really shouldn't have been. It was amazingly lucky.
