What I like is hopefully the Wells contract will limit how high the Angels will go in the Fielder (and Pujols if he reaches FA) next offseason and it would be one less team for the Cubs to compete against.

This, and you also have to hope that Kendry Morales gets healthy and hits like he did two years ago.

Seems like Angels fans on Angelswin.com seem to be about 50/50 on this trade. I really don't see how they can be so happy about it. To me it looks awful.

Soriano never would have approved a trade to the Angels. Why, Mike Scioscia might have determined his playing time based on performance!

Why would he subject himself to that when he has such a good gig with the Cubs?

There's a player on the Cubs' roster who doesn't currently start who would likely be more productive than Soriano? You might be able to argue Colvin, but I don't see anybody else. Maybe BJax at some point this year, but I don't know that it's likely in his rookie year.

Looks like Hendry plans on cutting/releasing/trading Soriano before his contract is up:

Szczur said Cubs general manager Jim Hendry told him he wanted to see him as the starting center fielder in 2014, with Brett Jackson in left and Tyler Colvin in right

Isn't Brett Jackson a better fielder than Colvin? Just wondering why Colvin is gonna stick at RF in 2014... They must think he's gonna be a very productive player considering that's all Cubs players in the OF (no FAs)...

Or move him to 1B... it's not like we don't have a gaping hole there in the upcoming years.

Hendry is just encouraging a prospect to commit to baseball over football. I'm sure all GMs and coaches use this kind of talk in recruiting.

And Vitters, Flaherty, Watkins, and Ridling across the infield and Clevenger behind the plate. Whitest team ever. Well, not ever, but you know.

This.

I'm sure a guy like Nick Saban tells 3 recruits every year that he envisions him QBing the national champs in 2 years.

Dave Kaplan just creamed himself.

And the Blue Jays have now flipped Napoli to the Rangers.

The Texas Rangers have acquired catcher-first baseman Mike Napoli from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for right-handed pitcher Frank Francisco and cash considerations, the club announced today.

Now they're even whiter.
