My Uncle thinks the Cubs are going to get Pujols. Ofcourse he thinks every single prospect from the Cubs is going to be great, and when they aren't and you mention it he acts like he always thought the guy sucked. Ofcourse he is kinda slow, he slurs his words and he's kinda mentally [expletive]. But not in a way that makes you feel sorry for him, more the way that makes him an annoying loudmouth.

He called me stupid when I told him the Cubs aren't going to get Pujols and not to get his hopes up. I can't wait until Pujols sign somewhere else so I can call him a stupid moron. Oh I'm not gonna let this go, I can't wait to remind him how stupid he is every time I see him. Am I bitter? Yeah but he blantantly insulted me and he's got it coming.

Agreed, I just hope the cubs can get Casey Kotchman or someone else who this board thinks sucks. GO CARDS

I want the Cubs to get Pujols for no other reason than so your shitty uncle can call you stupid some more.

"Stupid moron" is a great insult, though.

Yes, because only this board thinks Casey Kotchman sucks.

Per Rotoworld:

According to Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports, the Cardinals have not yet made an offer to Albert Pujols.

Brown thinks that might be a bad thing, but the strategy does make some sense. Pujols said he wants talks to cease when spring training opens, and that isn't set to happen for another nine full days. The Cardinals might simply be waiting until the pressure of that deadline gives them some kind of leverage. Pujols has expressed a desire to remain in St. Louis more times than we can count. If he's serious about sticking around and keeping his family in one place, he may be open to budging on his massive asking price once the clock is ticking at its loudest.

No, it doesn't make sense. The deadline was introduced by Pujols. It grants him leverage.

If the Cards' truly have adopted the "strategy" of quietly biding their time, confident in the notion that Pujols' harbors some unseen but abiding terror vis-à-vis playing elsewhere for more money, they have been drinking their own kool-aid.

his asking price is very reasonable. he's not injury prone and has consistently been one of the best players in the game.

Over the course of Pujols' career to date, the Cards have paid $979,500/WAR. Perhaps they've simply grown accustomed to free lunch.

According to the "Dollars" metric on Fangraphs (not perfect, but useful), Albert Pujols should've earned $267,700,000 between 2002-2010 (they didn't have his 2001 numbers for it, but his numbers that year probably would've put him at $25M a year or more). Pujols actually made $83,000,000 during that time span.

He has every right to demand $30 million a year over 10 years because that's exactly what he's been worth over the past 10 years, maybe even more than that.

Are they realistic options, yes they are. My guess is even if Pujols becomes a FA at the end of the season, Hendry will not sign him.... It's simple math really based on what we have seen for years from him..... Fielder hits from the left side, Pujols from the right! That should answer any questions that may be asked concerning whom Jimbo will try to sign (if the Cubs are looking for a new 1st baseman next season).

You can't seriously think that all things equal, Hendry (or anybody) would actually pick Fielder over Albert [expletive] Pujols because you think he has some kind of obsession with lefties.

If Hendry has a reason to choose Fielder over Pujols, it's because Fielder is 4 years younger(at least) and will come a 100 million dollars cheaper for the difference of about 3 less WAR per year most likely.

ESPN Stl radio was talking about the Pujols negotiations the other day (as they do every day), but they were absolutely livid that there was a 2 week span where Mozeliak had no communications with Pujols or his agent. They are preparing for the worst down here and I hope Albert delivers it to them. On a platter. With a big middle finger.

Fielder is also significantly worse and fat.

I know he lost a ton of weight in the off-season but its still something to worry about.

BTW, it would be hilarious if the Cards were forced to trade him a la John Santana because they know they can't re-sign him

Pujols will sign with the Cubs and shortly after people will find out he used roids and is 47.

Hahaha If Pujols is 47 then Mariano Rivera is 83...

We better be pro-active and get the birthers on this case.

This is why I said there was probably a 3 WAR per year difference between them. What Hendry and every other GM who's interested in these 2 next year(assuming they both hit the market, which is still highly unlikely if you ask me) is whether or not 3-4 extra wins per year is worth 100 million spread out over a decade?

Then, if he decides that it is worth it, you have to ask if Pujols elbow problems are going to be an issue going forward the older he gets? Did he put off TJS, for instance? If so, how much, if any, damage has he done to his elbow since that time. A physical is going to help with some of this obviously, but you have to account for possible physical problems going forward, at any rate. Kind of like what was NOT done when we gave Soriano his contract.

Finally, if it's me, I'm debating this: Is the gap between Pujols and Fielder going to widen or close during the middle and late years of this deal? Is Fielder at 30 going to be closer to Pujols when Albert is 34 or will the gap have widened? If I can get Fielder for 8 years, but have to give Albert 10, am I better off with a 34 year old Fielder playing his last year or am I better off paying Albert at 41 for the same scenario?

They probably can't even do that. He's a 10/5 guy and has said he would veto any deal. And if he's so bent on free agency that the Cards would think to trade him, no team is going to give up anything to make it worth dealing him and STL pretty much kissing him goodbye.

I swear to god, when I first read that I was thinking "who the f is John Santana?" for a good 15 seconds
