In general, I'm not a huge fan of trading players you couldn't keep anyway, but if you can find a suitable trading partner and that partner thinks the player will add value; then I don't see an issue with it. In a way, it's like some of the MLB teams in the offseason who know they can't resign a player because they'll cost too much and have to trade them to a willing partner. Dan Uggla from the Marlins to Braves is one example.

but uggla wasn't entering free agency. a better example would be the cardinals trading pujols after this season.

I do have one idea to maybe add control to this, particularly when it comes to draft picks. No team can have more than two, 1st round draft picks. That avoids a team from being able to just load up at the draft, which I think is reasonable in a 16 team league.

i have proposed a system that caps the amount of points you can trade. for example, you can only dump 700 of your points after the season. this would prevent teams from dumping 4 players and getting a ton of draft picks.

It's completely different than the Cards being able to trade Pujols after this season. Pujols has a contract, that expires. We aren't dealing with contracts here. Tim could have kept both Pujols and Felix if he wanted to, but decided to keep multiple players instead of those 2 and got a draft pick for them.

I don't see why this is an issue. It allows for more parity in the league. Teams that had poor seasons usually did not have top players. And if they can get 2 top players over 1 in the draft, then it makes that team better also.

And honestly, I don't give a [expletive] who's idea it is. I don't have anything against you or have anything for Tim.

i don't really know how it leads to parity when the best teams get to keep 2,000 points in addition to racking up draft picks. meanwhile, the team on the other side of the trade also gets to keep 2,000 points and they lose draft picks.

With all this arguing, you'd think Tim's team wins this league every year or something. Deven won it last year. Kevin won it the year before that. Adam won it three years in a row. Maybe Tim snuck in there once in between, but getting the 1st round pick isn't a guarantee of anything.

You are thinking to highly of yourself right now, Adam. To think we dislike something for the simple fact that you like it is a bit paranoid. I've never played in a keeper league before this league, so I really am not one to say whether it's right or wrong to trade away players you will have to dump anyway. I will say that I like the idea of being able to make some moves in the offseason to change the entire make up of my team if I don't like the direction it's heading. I also don't really know enough about any other team in the league to know who they plan to keep or get rid of, or whether the decision to trade with me hinges upon who they keep.

It's part of what makes the offseason a little more fun, IMO.

I wonder if Brian entered the time as midnight Feb. 14 and CBS interpreted that as meaning at the end of the day rather than the beginning. I know midnight is technically the beginning of the day but not everybody thinks that way.

Not sure what happened. I guess it's midnight tonight. Still time to work out trades, I suppose.

We have 3 managers that have not set their keepers yet. Shane, Juan and DJ all are at risk of losing their entire roster. If Raisin was talking trade with DJ, it's possible he set his, but didn't post them. I've received Juan's check. I've heard nothing from Shane recently. Anyone have a way to reach these people?

you said yourself you did the EY thing because you didn't like me.

Adam won it three years in a row.

[expletive] right.

I'm pretty sure that's not exactly the way that went down. I'm really not interested in rehashing old arguments anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

I trust that you aren't interested in starting up this season the same way last season ended. All that bickering was not healthy for the league, and I'm sure we all would love to just move past that. Are you with me?

Oh, and didn't Raisin win one, also?

By my calculations, trading for the #1 pick in the draft is comparable to selling your soul to the devil.

Actually, Kevin won in his first year in the league after trading me his first round pick.

Technically, I traded down 10 picks for...someone, I forget now. Jason Bay, some pitcher and Jordan Zimmerman, who I later flipped for Austin Jackson and Pablo Sandoval.

Damn right I did.

dlocks, I saw your trade offer and I thought I was accepting and I must have accidentally rejected it. I don't know if you pulled back the proposal or if you're still interested - if you are, I offered the same package again. Please accept by the deadline (midnight tonight) so I can set my roster accordingly.

Thanks!

Warning that the trade proposal needs to be before midnight east coast time.

Right - if he doesn't respond back by 11:30ish Eastern, I was just going to go ahead and go with my other roster.

I don't know if I clicked the wrong button and accidentally rejected the trade offer or if he just rescinded his offer when I went to accept it. Not sure what happened. =\ I hope he checks in here, RK or his PM box.

I withdrew the trade as the clock was ticking on the deadline.

I re-sent this trade in the off chance you see this or your PM, dlocks.

My first year in the league was 2005, and I don't think Tim has won a single league championship since I've been in the league (even though he had an undefeated regular season my first year). I do think he won the championship the year before I joined. So I agree with you that there isn't a problem here.

is there a place that shows how much of the 2000 point limit is used up and which of the players are exempt because of the three-year rule? also, i can't seem to find how many points each player accumulated last season - the stats options are (3 Year Avg · YTD Stats · Yesterday · Last 7 Days · Last 14 Days). are their keeper points based on their 3 year average? thanks.

1) No, just have to keep track of point limit and exempt players yourself.

2) Keeper points are based on the total number of points a player earned last year (unless exempt)

ok, I'm done. Sorry about that - I was in Utah.

players --> stats --> timeframe --> year --> 2010

thanks for the tip.

i can see why halladay was available. he's awesome but 889 points is a hell of a lot to carry when reasonably good position players put up almost 500.

Unmarked players have magically disappeared right on schedule.

why is Halladay not a FA?

he got traded. maybe whoever has him now won't keep him after this season and you can get him when you have the #1 pick again next year.

Ah...bummer. Well, I'll have to decide between Teix and Haren, then.
