Yeah that's encouraging. I like Bunting a lot and he's had him as the top QB in the draft. I saw Pete Prisco thinks he'll be the best QB in the draft also. Then you've got guys like Dilfer who said he didn't have him in the top 3 rounds but thinks Dalton is the best QB in the draft. It's a total crapshoot.

Like I said, I like his floor. He has the leadership, smarts, toughness and accuracy plus good mobility/athleticism. This play shows that his arm strength looked pretty damn good as a junior: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-Jar435rnc

He was injured as a senior and that hurt his production and arm strength and that injury-plagued season, I think, is the reason people laugh at the pick so much. Most see him as he was as a senior and not as he was as a junior.

That said, I still think the Titans, Vikings and Seahawks made the worst 1st round picks. All three were reaches with better players on the board.

All true. I think the Titans and Vikings are unique though and the "reach" aspect isn't as important with a QB as other spots. As everyone knows if you don't have a QB, you don't have a chance. They both have new coaching regimes and that's the ideal time to start new with a QB. The Vikings tried trading down but couldn't find a partner. At that point you have to get your guy. If it works out it doesn't matter in 3-5 years if you took him 10 spots too high. If it's a bust, it's a 1st round bust either way.

I'm just glad we've finally got a guy that you're going to build around. His success pretty much determines what happens with Spielman, Frazier, Musgrave, etc.

Well David Haugh thinks the Bears should forfeit the pick to the Ravens to protect their reputation in dealing with other teams:

http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/sports/cbsports-bears-nfl-should-do-right-by-ravens-in-botched-deal-20110429,0,3298834.story

Haugh is an idiot and a terrible writer. he uses more stupid analogies and metaphors then any other person alive, often several for the same lame point.

if there were some rule against it or the ravens had missed their man because of it, he'd have a point. but the fact remains that there isn't and they didn't. the bears know this, the ravens know this, and the rest of the league knows this.

the ravens can claim that they missed their man, but it would only reflect negatively on them since the rest of the league would know that they are lying. no one is going to be reticent to enter into any deals with the bears because they didn't give up a pick as everyone knows the ravens didn't suffer one bit because of the botched deal.

if the bears gave up a pick, the ravens, who lost absolutely nothing in this fiasco, would be taking advantage of the bears.

Oh cry me a frickin river, Ravens. The problem with their stance on wanting the Bears 4th rounder is that they're wanting the 4th rounder along with the 27th pick, which was never a part of the deal. We can't assume that the Pats wouldn't have taken Smith at 28 before Baltimore if the trade had gone through, or that someone wouldn't have offered a better package than what the Saints gave to get Ingram to move up and get Smith at 28.

Also, I don't care how the deal fell through. You're the team on the clock, and sometimes deals fall through. Be prepared for those types of situations. Sure it may have been the Bears fault, but you can't tell me there was absolutely nothing the Ravens could have done to make sure the Bears had called it in and subsequently had a backup plan in place incase it didn't happen for whatever reason.

Ravens got their guy, we got ours, move on.

Well said.

OK, how did NE get the 33rd pick? I heard something about Armanti Edwards.

Carolina dealt its first round pick in this draft to get NE's 2nd last year and take Armanti Edwards.

Very interesting pick. We needed LB depth (and maybe a starter if Tulloch goes away) but Ayers is a little surprising.

I like the pick. Not a ton of speed, but a solid linebacker who likely has 1st round talent. We're really loading up on the Bruins - Verner, Ball, Ayers off the top of my head. Raisin may have to become a fan here pretty soon.

I'm pretty surprised that all of these other QB's have went ahead of Mallett. He must really be some special douchebag to last this long.

I think his lack of mobility is also affecting him too.

True... He makes Drew Bledsoe look like Michael Vick in terms of mobility. It's pretty bad. Then again, Mallett got an arm like Bledsoe's as well...

I like Carter quite a bit. Probably a first round talent, but dropped due to injury. I had seen a lot of opinions that he'd be a late 2nd, early 3rd type guy but he's well worth this spot.

Never considered him a 3-4 LB though.

I would have gone a different direction, but I can live with Carter.

I was hoping Aaron Williams would still be on the board, still a nice project pick.

I bet the Raiders take Mallett if he makes it to them.

There's at least a 25% chance the Raiders take Mallett. I'd put it higher if they didn't have Campbell and Gradkowski.
