I've seen Akeem Ayers mocked to the Rams a few times. Does anyone know much about him?

Very athletic LB. Can fit at any LB position in any scheme from 3-4 rush OLB to 4-3 SLB. Good tackler, not a huge knockout hitter, but will wrap up. Good speed and size. Very disciplined in his assignments. May lack a little instinct to diagnose plays as quick as elite LBs, but can make up for some of it with his speed, and the fact that a slow reaction means he's not out of position.

I think he fits best in a 3-4 scheme. Can put him inside on 1st and 2nd down and let him at the QB on 3rd down.

Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton has signed a shoe and apparel deal with Under Armour, according to CNBC's Darren Rovell.

Terms were not disclosed, but according to sources this deal will be the largest deal ever given to an incoming NFL rookie, surpassing the $1 million a year deal adidas gave to Reggie Bush in 2006 both in terms of annual guarantee and overall dollars

cam newton...reggie bush...money...cam newton...reggie bush...money. what is it that ties these things together in my mind?

I disagree about the "very disciplined in his assignments" part of your post. He was much better this season with that but he still feels like he's learning the OLB position (he had his hands on the ground at DE throughout HS) and can really get filtered out of plays because of that. He does use his athleticism to get back in the play but I don't think he can get away with that in the pros since everyone is faster.

I agree with the rest of what you said. He's definitely a better fit as a 3-4 OLB.

Man, UCLA had DT Brian Price ('09 Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year & '10 2nd rounder), CB Al Verner (bet he'd be a 1st rounder if you re-did the '10 draft), OLB Akeem Ayers (probable '11 1st rounder) and S Rahim Moore (probable '11 2nd rounder) and had a really pedestrian defense. How frustrating.

Rumor has it that Ryan Mallett loves drugs.

When it comes to former Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett, reports have emerged of late regarding the issue of drug use. No one has reported that Mallet uses or has used drugs. But they’re coming dangerously close to doing so.

On Sunday, Rob Rang of CBSSports.com reported that Mallett will be asked at the Scouting Combine about “so-called lack of leadership and reports of illegal drug use.”

Now, former Rams and Panthers exec Tony Softli, who now works for 101espn.com in St. Louis, has echoed Rang’s report.

“Heavy rumors of drug use and possible addiction kept [Mallett] from coming out for the 2010 draft,” Softli writes.

Yeah I think that's been the rumor all along but no one would say it.

LOL at Cam saying he doesn't see himself just as a football player but as an entertainer and icon. Pass. At this point I hope the Vikings just wait until the 2nd and take the best available from Ponder, Stanzi, Dalton and Kapernick.

Gil Brandt, former Cowboys personnel guy, says he'd be surprised if Cam Newton wasn't the first overall pick.

He'd better have been traded for if that's the case. Newton is no JaMarcus Russell, but he's not anyone I'm enthused for in the pros.

Jones ran a 4.39? holy fffffff

is that really all that crazy of an unofficial time for a wr, though?

I think it is for one with his size and hands.

it's his official time, and he was supposed to run like a 4.5.

Cam did not look good and not just because they weren't completions. This is the question with the spread guys when they have to make 5 and 7 step drops and put it on a spot. Kapernick, Stanzi and Locker looked solid.

I didn't think he looked bad, just inconsistent. He'd make a few really nice throws and then follow them up with some poor ones. I was hoping for a little better from him throwing the ball, but I liked the 40 time.

My boy Von Miller just ran a 4.46 40. Dude is an absolute beast. I think he's solidified himself as a Top 5 pick.

I'd love if he dropped to 8 and the Titans went with a Miller/Kaepernick (or Ponder) duo. I'm wondering if Von will drop that low, though.
