I think the Vikings are going QB at 12, fwiw. And I think they go Locker as well.

They would be better off going for Vince Young.

I don't think either options are that great, but I would rather go Locker if I was Minnesota.

I would love to see that.

Latest Walterfootball mock has Bears with Castonzo, Austin, Dwayne Harris WR from ECU and KJ Wright, OLB from Miss St.

Interesting notes: Ttitus Young up to the 26th pick, Cameron Heyward's stock not being affected, and Paea dropping to the 53rd pick.

The 5 guys being picked right after Castonzo are Liuget, Wilkerson, Pouncey, Wisniewski, and Martez Wilson.

The 5 guys picked right after Austin are Danny Watkins, Dowling, Marcus Cannon, Deandre McDaniel, and Johnny Patrick(CB from Lousville)

The WR corps thins out VERY early at this point, with Hankerson and Baldwin both going off the board by the 41st pick, making it extremely tough for us to nab a solid WR with where we're picking, unless we want to reach for one in the 1st instead of taking solid value with the OLine at the same spot.

1. Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn

2. DaQuan Bowers, DE, Clemson

3. Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU

4. AJ Green, WR, Georgia

5. Von Miller, DE/OLB, Texas A&M (wow)

6. Marcel Dareus, DT, Alabama

7. Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska

8. Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina

9. Nate Solder, OT, Colorado (wow)

10. Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri

11. Aldon Smith, DE, Missouri

12. Jake Locker, QB, Washington

13. Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA

14. Julio Jones, WR, Alabama

15. Cam Newton, QB, Auburn

16. Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue

17. Cameron Jordan, DE, Cal

18. Cameron Heyward, DE/DT, Ohio State

19. Tyron Smith, OT, USC

20. Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa

21. Justin Houston, DE/OLB, Georgia

22. Derek Sherrod, OT, Mississippi State

23. Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin

24. JJ Watt, DE, Wisconsin

25. Brandon Harris, CB, Miami

26. Titus Young, WR, Boise State

27. Torrey Smith, WR, Maryland

28. Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama

29. Who would you go with? They gave the Bears Anthony Castonzo. It would be tough to pass on Corey Liuget or Mike Pouncey.

I'd honestly go with either Castonzo, Pouncey, or maybe even Wisniewski. I'm not going to take Liuget there if I think there's a shot at getting Paea later on in the 2nd round, even if it means giving up a 5th or so to move up a few spots to do it.

If that's your strategy, I'd see if you could trade down. You can get good guards in the top half of the second round.

Yep, you're right. Trading down from the 1st would probably recoup whatever you're sending back out to trade up to get Paea in this scenario.

Possible but who the hell knows this early in the process. They desperately want a QB they can get behind as the future. I do too. If teams aren't as high on Gabbert as mock's are suggesting now, I think they'll do whatever they can to get to him. A couple months ago their radio guy said that the Vikings were really high on him and that was before McShay and others made him the consensus #2 QB.

It's weird how polar some of the player reviews were coming out of the Senior Bowl.

Locker didn't look very impressive to me, inasmuch as he didn't look like any of his well documented issues have improved at all. He's a fierce competitor, a great thrower on the run, and a threat with his feet, but he's still inaccurate.

I have heard so many conflicting reports about who has looked good and who hasn't at the Senior Bowl this week, I really don't know what to make of it.

The only consensus I've gotten is that Von Miller and Cam Jordan looked great as did Phil Taylor.

Vance, that just goes to show you how many amateurs there are watching these practices. It's tough to trust specific analysis unless it comes from someone with connections to scouts or specific teams.

I DVRed the Senior Bowl on a whim. Is it at all worth watching?

I think so. It was a decent enough game, guys played hard and there were some impressive performances.

I DVRd it and watched it.

Yeah there's really only 2-3 guys I pay attention to when it comes to evaluating tape on players. Kiper and McShay are generally pretty good and assumed, but I also keep up with Mike Mayock (NFL Network) and Wes Bunting/Matt Bowen at the National Football Post.

Those three (Mayock, Bowen, Bunting) have all been pretty consistent on who was most impressive through practices and the game.

Yeah, I mostly agree with those 3 also. Having watched a lot of the practices and all of the game. My amateur eye hasn't disagreed with much other than I don't know why anyone likes Nate Solder.

Yeah...Solder really got beat bad at the game. There's no reason your QB should get sacked when there's no blitzing allowed.

Yeah, they're the guys that I generally understand what they're seeing – I rarely disagree with their analysis.

The Vikings interviewed Locker last week and the story is that it went really well. The story is that they love him as a leader and think that mentally he has what it takes.

Another story says that the Vikings and Dolphins were the two teams who showed the most interest in Kapernick and that he was led to believe one of those teams is considering him in the 2nd round.

Posted
Yeah, he's a great guy in the locker room. But his accuracy is just horrible for a Day 1 QB.

There are lots of QB's who would become great locker room guys if a team agreed to draft them in the top 15 when they shouldn't go in the 1st round.

Locker's accuracy scares the crap outta me. The Vikings thought they had a good leader at QB this year. A lot of good that did. I'd much prefer Kapernick. Rumors are they want Vince Young short term and draft a QB. If they are deadset on that, I'd prefer that scenario. Just not too high on Locker. Or Newton for that matter.

I now have no idea whatsoever who the Titans will draft. I was hearing they really liked Locker, but I would expect whoever the new coach is to be less thrilled with him. With the roster makeup the way it is, though, I have to think QB will be addressed in one of the first two rounds.

Not where they currently are. What about trading down and taking Locker, though? Might feel more comfortable if they could take him lower.

The interest level in Locker will probably depend on the new coaching staff. I was hearing Fisher and his scouts were high on Locker, but if Munchak is the new coach, I don't know if he's as high on Locker. With each passing day I'm warming up more and more to the idea of filling a defensive need with the 8th pick and taking Devlin/Stanzi/Dalton/Kaepernick in the second round.

Feel the same about the Titans as the Vikings. Not high on Locker or Newton. Keep forgetting Stanzi and Devlin. They don't have very high upside, but I can see them being very capable starters for awhile.

I like Newton a lot. At this point, if the Titans take a first round QB, I want it to be Newton or Gabbert. Both due to their upside.

And I'm actually a really big fan of Devlin. Stanzi is probably a decent starter as his ceiling, but I see Devlin as a guy with quite a bit of upside. He could be a better version of Joe Flacco. Kaepernick has the highest upside of any QB in the draft, though, I think. Kid has an absolute cannon of an arm and he's probably pretty competitive athletically with Newton.

Agreed, I'd be thrilled if the Titans or Vikings took Kapernick. I like what I've seen from him. I wouldn't mind Gabbert either. But I feel like he'll be gone early. So I'm just hoping we don't jump all over the Cam Newton hype train.

I don't like Stanzi

Yeah, me either. I don't get the hype he's getting nationally. Guys must have short memories, because while is TD/INT ratio was pretty elite last year, he's one year removed from like a 20-pick season.
