Yankees sign 30-year-old pitcher who hasn't player in the Major Leagues since 2006.

Has it really been 5 years? Wow.

I wish him nothing but success. He was one of my favorite Cubs of all time.

I feel the same way. Unless of course he is facing the Cubs in the World Series, then I hope he gives up a few runs :D

My buddy and I took his dad to a Cubs game in Milwaukee in 2006. At the time, we didn't realize we were watching Prior's last appearance for the Cubs.

Remember back in 07 spring training when AZ Phil (I think -or maybe it was Al Yellon) was reporting that Prior was showing his 03 stuff in workouts...

...and then we saw him pitch in a spring training game and he was topping off at like 81.

Yea, that sucked.

Seems odd to me that he would choose to sign with the Yankees after they just hired Rothschild as their pitching coach. Didn't Prior blame the Cubs for many of his injuries (pitch levels, team doctors and trainers, etc.) and wouldn't that at least translate somewhat into blaming Larry for how he was handled as a Cub?

He could have viewed Larry as the good cop in the relationship.

Wait, are you implying that Dusty was the bad cop? No way.

I'm thinking Prior isn't too terribly picky about which team he pitches for at this point.

There were reports then and some since that Larry actually argued that they (Wood, Prior, etc) should have lower pitch counts, but Dusty overruled him. If that's the case, Prior would have knowledge of it.

I don't recall that specific issue, but I do remember in general that a lot of people (including Bruce Miles IIRC) said that Dusty didn't listen to Larry. It would certainly be plausible that pitch counts was one of those areas.

Yeah, I was thinking about articles like Bruce's. I thought pitch counts were mentioned specifically as an issue they disagreed on, but I could be wrong on that.
