Everyone thinks they know what should be done. Everyone's an expert. It's important for the decision makers to cut through that and realize that everyone just wants to see a "W" column that is much larger than the "L" column. And that's really it.

If the new coach isn't a "Michigan man" and comes in and wins 10 games next year, I'll give you that's probably true. But it's also extremely unlikely to nearly impossible. By hiring a "Michigan man," Brandon will buy the new coach some time to struggle early (which will happen) while he readjusts the system to a pro-style offense and either a 4-3 or 3-4 base defense.

If the boosters really want a "Michigan man" and Brandon doesn't deliver one, the leash will be much, much shorter. I could be wrong, but I'd be willing to bet that if RichRod had strong Michigan roots and was considered a "Michigan man," he would still be employed at Michigan now. By abiding the wishes of the boosters (if that is their wish), Brandon buys himself and his new coach time to rebuild the program. If he targets the best choice regardless of his Michigan roots, that guy better win big soon.

A Michigan guy could get a legitimate chance to build a program. I'm not sure the same is true for another outsider.

Exactly. If Michigan were in a position talent-wise where a new coach could win 9-10 games next year, ignoring the "Michigan man" calls wouldn't be much of an issue. However, with a rebuilding process almost assured, fans/boosters will be much more patient with a "Michigan man" than they would be otherwise.

UT strength and conditioning coach Bennie Wylie reportedly heads to Texas. Crap.

The #2 choice after Moffitt. S&C has gone to [expletive] at Texas over the past 2 years.

The OC position is confusing as hell. Chryst is dragging his feet while he was hoping for the Pitt job, rumors that UT gave him a deadline and they are currently flying in Harsin from Boise as we speak.

The new S&C coach will be the fifth in three years (2008-2010) at Tennessee. I was really hoping to avoid turnover this offseason.

Texas State has hired Dennis Franchione, per Joe Schad.

That should be interesting when they move to the WAC in 2 years. Too bad that could not pull in Phil Fulmer as once mentioned.

Not official, but it looks like Bryan Harsin and Major Applewhite will be co-OC's for Texas, of course Harsin will have the play calling duties. Between them Manny Diaz and Bo Davis the majority of the coaching staff are no all under 40. Huge upgrades all around from last years staff outside of Muschamp leaving.

According to Joe Schad, Michigan wanted to meet with Fitz to discuss the opening, but Fitz shot them down before any meeting could take place.

Not surprising. I don't think he'll leave Northwestern. Tick tock, David Brandon. Tick tock.

i like franchione's career arc: new mexico to tcu to alabama to aTm to texas st. probably should've stayed at 'bama, big guy.

Didn't Bama fire him?

no, he left even though he said he was staying there.

I want him at Northwestern anyways. He's spent the last 16-17 years affiliated with NW, he's not going to have nearly the recruiting pitch after jumping to a conference rival.

I'm already beyond mad about this search.

How good does Les Miles' skill set even translate at Michigan knowing that the Big Ten won't let him get away with the oversigning crap that's a way of life in the SEC?

Now that Luck is staying I would have to think he's more likely to stay at Stanford than go to Michigan.
