Athletic director Dave Brandon said he had discussions with both of them, but insisted Harbaugh and Miles weren't offered the job in an interview with The Associated Press on Tuesday night.

The next day, he seemed to try to knock the luster off the coach who left Stanford to lead the San Francisco 49ers and the one who stayed at LSU.

"All that glitters is not gold when it comes to some coaches," Brandon said. "A two- or three-hour meeting with a coach uncovers much more than you could learn scanning the Internet or sifting through statistics.

Good to see that Michigan is ripping their own alumni in the press.

Brandon needs to just STFU. Is he really responding to fan email? come the [expletive] on.

Wow. Talk about taken completely out of context. I watched the Hoke introduction today when Brandon said all this, and it had nothing to do with Harbaugh or Miles. It was just a general statement made about the interview process he went through. Was that a Free Press article? Wouldn't surprise me in the least.

He wasn't talking about anyone in particular. He said he was in 5 cities in 6 days, interviewed a bunch of people who he wouldn't specify, and didn't mention JH or Miles by name at all. He was very adamant about not getting into any particulars about the coaching search. It was an off-hand comment.

Considering they were the only two who glittered at all it would be very difficult to pretend he was talking about somebody else.

off-hand? ok. still seems pretty obvious he was talking about one of those 2, or both.

Seattle Seahawks QB coach Jedd Fisch is going to be Miami's new offensive coordinator. He was recently the University of Minnesota's offensive coordinator.

Mack Brown is trying to steal Auburn's OL coach, Jeff Grimes....hope it doesn't happen...not only because Grimes is a good coach, but because Christian Westerman signing an LOI with AU is likely contingent on Grimes staying at AU, else Westerman will go to Texas.

Hasn't Westerman committed to Texas?

The Norm Chow news is great. Mainly because UCLA is both cheap and hampered by slashed state budgets so they wouldn't have been able to pay a lot for a DC if they still owed Chow a lot of money.

While he was a massive disappointment at UCLA, I wish he hadn't stayed in conference. Especially since Utah looks good with a veteran offense.

Yeah Westerman committed a while back but has since looked at Aubrun and USC when Texas let go of the coaching staff. He hasn't decommitted and his family has planned on moving to Austin too. His family was even wearing UT shirts during the UA Game last week.

Also to note Westerman almost committed to Boise St prior to Texas and UT has since brought in Harsin as the OC. The rumors I have been hearing since last week is that Grimes in all likelyhood will accept the job, if not Wickline from Okie St is next in line. Grimes is from Texas, and Mack Brown has been picking young SEC coaches like crazy the past couple of week. Grimes though is Westerman's favorite OL Coach from what I have heard. Anything is possible but right now I feel pretty confident that he goes to Texas. Also Texas has not lost a single recruit from the coaching staff changes so far.

His parents want him to go to Texas, but Christian really likes Jeff Grimes per my understanding. I'd be willing to make a small wager on Christian going to AU if Grimes were to stay. However, as you mentioned, Grimes if from Texas, he played for UTEP, met his wife there, etc. I think Grimes is going to take the position at Texas, and i believe Texas may also be offering an 'assistant head coach' title if he goes there.

edit - His mother's parents live near AU, so I've heard that it may just be his father who wants him to attend Texas....anyway, if Grimes goes to Texas, Westerman will attend Texas.

How do you people make it your business to know O-Line coaches, etc? That is very strange to me

I read his wiki as i wanted to know if he has any ties to Texas...which he does. Color me strange if you think that's strange.

O-Line coaches on college teams? I don't see that as very strange. I know all of Tennessee's coaches (and grad assistants) quite well. I figured that was the norm.

Been some reports that Grimes is in Austin today.

Especially in a year like this for Texas when the entire staff changes. Plus having the #1 recruiting class and wanting to make sure they bring in coaches to keep that class in place.

Yes, he's there today interviewing.

Makes sense regardless of what he wants to do. If he wants to stay at Auburn, today's interview will get him a nice raise.
