Also, there's a rumor that the Mayo-Pacers deal is off because they didn't get paperwork in before the deadline. Which would be hilarious.

Now that would be some funny [expletive]

Hold off on J-Mac to Memphis deal. Word is the two teams may have missed the 3 p.m. deadline.

Hahaha

This will help OJ's attitude problem.

If you haven't noticed at this point in the season, the most recent trend has quality height as a premium. The teams with depth at the 4 and 5 (Boston, Los Angeles, the Bulls) have found consistency. The fact that those teams will be able to wear down the front court of other teams in the playoffs will prove to be invaluable.

I don't think adding Courtney Lee automatically makes the Bulls better than Boston or Miami. I think they're very capable of winning with or without Lee, but not favorites against them. The one thing they have on Miami is depth in the front court. The Bulls are also the only team in the East that can match up with Boston's depth.

Lol Id expect no less from you Nuts. Always same with you

Hi, Pot? This is Kettle. Looking pretty black today.

Once again a smartass answer from you too. Awesome

Wow, this might be the first time someone has referred to bukie as a smartass.

Na cause this is the 2nd time hes acted liked a smartass to me today that Ive pointed out.

Look I usually like Bukies points and such, but his whole"do you know anything about Asik" comment earlier was him being a smartass plain and simple.

Depth doesn't matter as much in the playoffs. When smart, focused, defensive teams start trapping Rose as soon as he crosses midcourt we'll wish we had another ball handler that could make them pay.

I agree that you just don't throw Asik/Gibson away for nothing but you can't swing another deal built around picks and spare parts to upgrade Keith [expletive] Bogans?

Well, apparently not.

Not so much, I just didn't understand how someone could be so far off on assessment of Asik if they actually saw him play this year.

I'm confident if there was a deal on the table for a good SG and Asik was the only player going the other way, I think a deal would have been made. I don't think that was the case today.

It's now confirmed that the Bulls made no trades. Made runs at Lee, Mayo and Anthony Parker, but no deals were agreed upon.

Mayo stays put:

O.J. Mayo stays in Memphis. Grizzlies and Pacers couldn't come to agreement before deadline, source says.

Right. Just because they were willing to dump a headache like Mayo to the Pacers for a pretty unremarkable return doesn't mean the price would have been the same to the Bulls. Teams trading guys are going to realize those players are going to be more of a need/necessity for certain teams over others, so the asking price will change accordingly.

Looks like the only transaction will be through a signed buyout player or picking up a free agent. Bulls need to add someone to the roster, since they're a man short for now.

Are there any rumored buyout candidates worth a damn besides Rip?

Anthony Parker. Troy Murphy will get bought out too, rumored to be going to Celtics afterward.

You do know that Boston traded away all of their frontcourt depth, right?

Christ, Parker is 35 years old already?

I'm looking at his B-R page and he didn't play in the NBA between 2001-2005.

Yeah, played in Israel, IIRC.

I heard that yesterday and I was pretty shocked by that as well.

Well, I do now that I heard about the Perkins trade. Even better for the Bulls, although they still have Garnett, Shaq, Big Baby, Green, Krstic, and Jermaine O'Neal will be back for the playoffs.

They will absolutely dominate the 2004 Eastern Conference playoffs.

That's still better front court depth than any team besides Chicago in the East. It really is confusing that they went for that Perkins trade though.

Posted
The weird thing is, out of all those guys only Shaq and Krstic really play the 5 at all, as Garnett and Davis are 4's. So...they like Krstic better than Perkins?

I like that the Bulls stood pat. They are built to win via depth at all positions (except maybe SF). All of the guys on the bench can play at least 15 minutes a night and make a positive impact (again, except perhaps Scabs). No point in paying for an OJ Mayo or Courthey Lee when it would likely cost us first round picks and at least Asik or Gibson, perhaps bohth. There's no reason to believe Mayo or Lee would be that much of a difference maker in the playoffs. This team is built for the next 5-7 years, not just this year.

Garrrrrrrrrrr Forman was just on the Score and basically said the same thing. He didn't come right out and say the Bulls weren't winning a title this year, but said something about wanting to 'hit a home run, rather than a single or double.' I took that to mean they weren't going to sacrifice the future for a marginal upgrade this season, which makes sense. Like you said, Lee or Mayo would have been more of a Bogans related catharsis than a big upgrade toward a title.
