I was never a really big Luol Deng fan (as that thread clearly indicates) but he won me over this year. I'm glad I was wrong about that.

I almost like Deng more than Rose.

Same here. What made Luol step of his game? Thibs?

He wasn't as good this year as he was last year.

Yep. He was healthier this year, but really didn't do anything differently outside of shooting a few more 3's. Winning lots of games will change perceptions.

Left more room for Rose. Frankly I wouldn't want the ball in Deng's hand more and Rose's less.

He is now more of a 4th option than a second option. He was actually a more effective shooter due to the increase in 3-point shots as opposed to long 2's. His rebounding suffered a bit this year individually, but so did Rose and Noah's. Assists down too, but again the Bulls have used him more as a spot-up shooting option this year instead of an offensive creator (which is a good thing).

Most of my frustration with Deng was how he loved to shoot that awful 21 foot shot jumper. I also thought the guy was very injury-prone as well but he fought through quite a few nagging injuries this season.

He's an awesome on-ball defender as well. Again, I'm thankful to eat crow when it comes to Lu.

It seems he started fighting through nagging injuries when it became clear there was something to fight for.

The Deng thing is fairly simple. He's taking 3's instead of long 2's, he's healthy and he's playing great defense. Most importantly for our perceptions though, he has seen way less of the ball in possession.

Everything looks better when Derrick's got the ball.

If you were a Republican but were a Chicago sports fan that liked the sox instead of the Cubs it would be hard to know whether to like him or not. I'm assuming they'd let the political side win over.

The things I am thinking of are not really measurable outside of threes. His defense has improved and I think he is playing more physically. It seemed to me that Luol was afraid of contact before.

He shot fewer FT/g than last season

I think the moment he became the third option on the team he became very good. Earlier in the year he was inconsistent and then once Boozer came back he was a completely different player.

Deng is really bad when you give him the ball and ask him to create his own shot. He'll turn it over or get swatted a lot. But he's great within the Bulls system. And he actually realizes what his strengths and weaknesses are, which helps a lot.

i usually disagree with him about deng, but i think he's right. the main thing that pissed me off about loul before this seaosn was how soft he was. he'd always be scared on fast breaks and would go up weak whenever he was at the basket. constantly went for the layup instead of the dunk, and missed a ton of them. this year he's going to the basket stronger and actually throwing it down.

i don't know if he's been better or worse this season, but he's definitely looked a lot tougher

He still looks awkward as hell, but he's actually been surprisingly effective this year at creating his own shot. If it works it works.

oh, and deng also played a crazy amount of minutes this season

He is young though. It is great how good he has been this year, and how he has stepped up as a real good role player.

Is it 12:00 yet? SO PUMPED! Grandma's watching the kids today and I'm going out to watch this. So great to be excited about The Bulls again.
