Doesn't really make that huge a difference in the long run. It's not always or necessarily a "bad" thing, but it's not really critical to having a good team and can pretty easily be detrimental. Edited by Sammy Sofa

they also had the best pitching of any AL team that made the playoffs, and the third-best OBP in the AL. productive outs are probably down around the 100th reason they are in the world series.

You're right. Strikeouts are the way to go, man! You wont win games if you move runners!

Sorry for the sarcasm, but I don't see why "productive outs" are so shunned, even mocked. How is moving the runner along a bad thing? Obviously the batter should try to reach base safely, but if he does make an out wouldn't you much rather have him move any baserunners while he does?

it's the effort of trying to make a productive out.

of course you'd rather make a productive out than an unproductive out, but framing it that way doesn't tell the story. is making a productive out better than hitting the ball hard into the gap and scoring all 3 runners on base?

when you limit your outcomes, you limit your team's production.

Cliff Lee is great but their rotation is not that good.

And yet they've had some of the best pitching in the AL this year.

Utley is kinda a D-Bag.

A D-Bag I would take on my team 10 outta 10 times.

Also his wife looks kinda like Megan Fox minus the crazy.

Love that small ball. Sacrifice the out, leading to having to pull your stud starter for a pinch hitter and nothing to show for it unless you get the 2 out hit that would have scored the run anyway.

Geez I don't know about Lincecum on one days rest coming in. This means he probabaly won't be available for Game 7. I realize the starter only lasted 2 IP tonight, but seems like a bit of a panic move.

Oh and the Giants are 5 outs away from the world series. The collapse should start now if the Cubs paralells are to come to fruition.

Panic? They've got plenty of arms in the bullpen. This is ideally shutting the door.

If they have plenty of arms in the pen why did they bring in a starter on 1 day rest to get outs for them. I just thought it was an odd move that's all.

If you just need a few outs, even on short rest why not go to your best pitcher? If they clinch tonight he'll be fully rested to start Game 1.

Because ideally he's much, much better than any of the other arms available and then they wouldn't have to go to Wilson until the 9th.

Because he just pitched on Thursday? I wasn't surprised when he didn't look particularly sharp. It's not a do or die game, and the Giants have a decent bullpen don't they? I just feel like it's an odd move in this situation.

I know he's only going on 1 day rest, but they only wanted him for what, an inning? I'm not all that familar with the Giants bullpen, but I don't really hate the move.
