Check out this doozy of an article:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/438659-josh-hamilton-is-the-reason-that-cubs-gm-jim-hendry-should-be-fired

Things that are dumb in the article:

-As we all know, Hendry did not draft Hamilton and then decide to trade him. They agreed to give the Reds their slot in the draft, and were not told of who they were picking until it was time to pick. Sure Hendry could have decided before the draft to take Hamilton, but so could several other GMs who picked before the Cubs. Should they all be fired?

-He starts ripping on JH for not finding nuggets. He says KW got John Danks for nothing, making it seem like he stole an unhearlded player from the Rangers. They traded one teams top prospect for another teams basicallly. One was more major league ready, while the other had a higher ceiling.

-Also on the topic of finding nuggets. He says the Cubs never find nuggets, yet the 2008 team had afterthoughts like Jim Edmonds, Reed Johnson and Mark DeRosa playing huge roles for the team.

I know Bleacher Report is full of garbage like this but its still funny to point stuff like this out.

I cringe every time I see someone link to an article on that site. I have yet to read one that's not full of garbage.

the comments at the bottom are the best.

Darrell. Great column ! Jim Hendry has always been somewhat a sore spot in my eyes though now after reading this i can tell you only time Darell will allow Tom Rickett's to open his eyes and go find the right people in upper management to make this franchise into a long and coming champion calliber team year after year. Will see the moves made in the off season to make this team rebound. I know what it will take but will Hendry. One thing in baseball is that sometimes measuring how a team will perform simply on numbers can be deceiving. We seen the Padres whom are leading the NL. with a payroll of 37million. Can you imagine if they win it al, what will that say about winning overall. I will say the the cubs have the young talent to be a contender in 2011 but again Hendry will need to make 4 moves mainly in there rotation, relief, 1st base and multipositional player with a left bat..

Darrell. sure there is a few players in the works like Brett Jackson whom we might see in September and Jay Jackson the rookie Stater with a good young arm. Keep an eye on Brian Lahair the prospect who plays first base for the cubs in Triple A. He is a nice lefty bat who is 6'2 and 220 Lbs. He is hitting over .300 with great numbers but the cubs just seem to not make correct moves.

I hope Brett Jackson pans out but he was considered a stretch when they drafted him and he's not known for OBP. I don't know as much about LaHair but they have had some other first base products that were on the fast trace including Brian Dopirek who completely busted out.

@Darrell: Our best firstbase prospect is Rebel Ridling

Even think of Fukudome. He was supposedly a great pickup. He ended up a bust while Kenny Williams found Alexei Ramirez from Cuba who nobody heard of and he ended up being a much better player.
- yes all guys that nobody has heard of get a 4 year $4.75M major league deal.

Oh and P.S. good article I like reading articles from people that actually know what they are talking about and having good legit conversation about it. I look forward to more articles that you will be writing and comments that you will be posting.

articles like this are catnip for idiots.

I'll admit to having interned as a copy editor for them. I edited a lot of BR articles. I did come across some that were pretty good and well written. But yes, there was A LOT of garbage.

I kind of want to respond about the whole Hamilton thing, but someone already pointed out the whole agreement the Cubs had in place with the Reds regarding their pick and the author of the article pretty much called him an idiot while not addressing the whole issue of Hendry having the agreement in place before hand. He just nitpicked at a small comment about being committed to an outfield for 2008 instead :?

Those people are ridiculous

Ted Lilly isn't really a nugget. He was a very good pitcher who pitched very well before during and after* being a Cub.

*I assume.

You assume correctly. 5-2, 3.33 ERA, 0.935 WHIP, 4.9 K/BB since joining the Dodgers.

i thought "nugget" meant finding a mediocre or relatively little-known player and then having him blossom on your team.

lilly career before signing with cubs- 4.60 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, 2.09 K/BB

lilly since signing with the cubs- 3.67, 1.13 WHIP, 3.34 K/BB

he did benefit from getting out of the AL east, but still. nobody expected him to become as good as he was during his time with the cubs.

really, hendry should get more credit for lilly than KW gets for danks. lilly was a journeyman bacn of the rotation pitcher before the cubs and was already 30 when he signed here. john danks was a one-time top prospect and a well known name before the white sox traded for him.

it shouldn't be a surprise that danks ended up being good. but lilly suddenly turning into cole hamels lite? that was highly unexpected.

what i would like to know is how ted lilly learned how to stop walking people when he put on a cub uniform. his BB/9 IP was 2.37 as a cub and 4.06 in the three years before he became a cub. he was always home run-prone because of the fly ball rate and the big curve, but at least when he became a cub more of those home runs were only solo shots.

larry rothschild is a pretty swell pitching coach

Cubs have a top 5 pitching and hitting coach, IMO. Too bad they don't have better players for them to work with.

Totally bogus content, but it's good to see that the morons are (finally) souring on Hendry.

I think that it's taken a very long time for people to realize that given his resources, our success should be quite a bit more than what we've gotten from him.
