The biggest difference between 1st half and 2nd half Z?

BABIP.

Luck.

He's still the same pitcher he's been the past several years. He has been throughout the year.

Luck ??? Jesus.

4 HR in his first 5 games vs 1 hr his last 10 games should clue you in on the " luck " factor.

First, there's a lot of luck involved with HR. You can groove the exact same pitch 10 times, but not all of them get hit for HR.

Second, I haven't gone through the details, but he looks to have been pretty lucky with the HR in the last 10 games. That's a pace to give up about 4 HR in a season, which would be extremely rare in this era. simply put, it is basically impossible to be that anti-HR as a pitcher on a consistent basis.

Third, quotation marks can actually "touch" the word they surround.

He may make some team very happy next year after we trade him for some borderline prospects and partial salary relief.

You mean the "Jim Hendry Special"?

The same. There has to be another player out there whose on a similarly bad contract, but an all around inferior player that we can trade him for.

Yeah but the Milton Bradley for Carlos Silva swap has certainly been a good move.

I don't think that is a personnel strategy we should continue to use moving forward. The odds of that working out again are much lower than simply allowing him to stay and pitch in the starting rotation for us.

I have decided to space my quotation marks from now on, as some have enough time on their hands to consider it " weird ", and others enjoy drawing attention away from their ridiculous posts by alluding to it .

So you're drawing attention to it because you don't have a response for the first two points?

Hendry got asked if he would like to see Z back next year:

"We hope so," Hendry said on ESPN 101.1 FM in St. Louis. "He really seems to have gotten himself in a good spot. His last 5 or 6 starts have been outstanding. We've had Carlos since he was 16. I know people don't believe this but 90 percent of the time he's really been a pleasure to be around and a quality citizen.

He went on to say he has had a couple blowups but what really hurt him is that he didn't pitch well for a year and a half. Can somebody tell me when this year and a half of not pitching well took place?

Probably cause he only had 9 wins last year.

In the "you bet, Z, whatever you say" category...

ST LOUIS -- Enjoying his best run of pitching in more than two years, the always-controversial Carlos Zambrano said after winning his ninth game of the season Wednesday that he will retire when his contract ends after the 2012 season.

"I told you the other day, this will be my last contract," Zambrano said. "This will be my last contract. I won't be playing anymore. I don't want to play anymore. Life is short. Sometimes you miss things with your family, like very important people, like my daughter. Sometimes you miss things in life because of baseball that you shouldn't miss. I want to be there any moment for my daughter and my family. Baseball takes a lot of time away from us."

I'll have nothing but respect for a guy who walks away from the game at age 31 when he's perfectly healthy and eying another 50 or so mil deal. Oswalt has also said he's done after his current contract, I believe.

Too bad after the 2012 season the world is going to end and his contract will expire in a different way.

No offense to you personally, but I can't wait till 2013 so I don't have to see that joke used anymore.

That and relevant Cubs baseball... maybe?

i actually believe him when he says he's done after this contract. he's been talking about that for a long time now.

With as unstable as he is I would not be at all shocked to see him up and quit sometime next year if something doesn't go his way.

I still don't think Zambrano is back until he cracks 90 on the gun

In Zambrano's latest start, MLB Game Day had him working around 88-91 with his fb, topping out at 93.

I find it kind of weird that people are concerned about Z's velocity considering how much flak Z used to get for overthrowing everything and not taking something off his pitches in order to get better movement. It could be that overuse finally took a toll on his arm and sapped him of some velocity...but perhaps Zambrano finally listened to his critics and altered his pitches accordingly?

Whatever it is, it's been working lately. I just can't seem to find a good way to predict whether it is likely to continue beyond right now. I guess I'll just sit back and watch.

I will bet you 100 million dollars this doesn't happen.
