so hossa's got 5 points through 3 games with 3 being goals. any chance he hits 100 points this year?

Very possible. He's done it before.

Hawks first win in Buffalo since 2001.

Maybe I'm too biased but the Hammer hit didn't seem terribly vicious to me. Guy had the puck at his feet, and it looked like Hjamarsson was going for the puck. I thought the hit was relatively clean, it's just that the guy was in an awkward position and his head hit the glass.

You hate to see a guy go down like that, but I didn't think the result was necessarily reflective of the type of hit.

intent has no merit in the NHL justice system. I agree with you, but the NHL is really hard to read on these types of things. My guess is Hjalmarsson is not quite a big enough name to get off free.

Any guesses on how Hammer will be punished? The postgame show on WGN seemed to think he is due for a multiple game suspension.

I'd guess two games.

That's what I'm thinking.

Pominville doesn't seem too badly hurt, so that should help. It was just an awkward play. The puck never quite got to Pominville, but it was heading to him and it was close.

If it happened to one of our guys I'd think it was worth a couple games. I guess.

Yeah, but usually punishment comes from an actual hit to the head or from behind. It's tough to define what was suspendable about it, but it probably is since a concussion was involved.

considering that we've played 3 good teams (2 on the road), we're missing campbell, and the new team is still learning to play with each other, we aren't off to a bad start. could easily be 3-0. i think we'll keep getting better as the guys get used to each other and the young guys settle in a bit.

losing hjalmarsson for a couple games will definitely hurt though. our d is going to be atrocious for those games.

hos for mvp

Agreed. Beating Ryan Miller in Buffalo after he was given a 2-0 lead in the first 3 minutes is quite the accomplishment. The stars started to show up last night too. Keith, Toews, and Kane were pretty good.

I agree on the good start. I do want to see us improve on SOG allowed per game though. I think we lead the league with ~25 SOG per game last year. This year in admittedly low sample size we've averaged 34 per game. This involves a lot of assumptions, but since Turco and Niemi had the same save% last year, we're looking at a 60 goal increase this year, or about 0.7 goals a game.

I realize Huet played almost half the season at a lesser save%, but whatever, you get the picture.

ever since the ovechkin hit on campbell last season, i've gained a new respect for soupy. our defense seems to be completely different when he's not in there.

he's vastly overpaid, but as a 4th d-man he's pretty badass. i hate his contract still, but i don't dislike him anymore.

Leddy will have to step up since Scott is pretty much worthless as a defender, though that's not why he's on the team.

Yeah, he's bad. But we need at least one enforcer. So who suits up on the blue line tonight? Keith, Seabrook, Leddy, Boynton, Scott, and ???? I guess Hendry? I've lost track of him. Has he been a scratch so far this year or is he hurt?

Why do you need an enforcer? Especially one who actually sucks at hockey.

You don't. They haven't had one for years yet went from also ran to contender to champion regardless. People just get hung up on that nonsense.

truth be told the only enforcing enforcers ever really do is getting into fights with other teams enforcers. That is why it makes no sense to have such a player who really has no other value on your team.
