Cardinals manager Tony La Russa has confirmed that Colby Rasmus did ask for a trade earlier this season and also added that the outfielder asked to be traded during his rookie season, as well.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Joe Strauss, Rasmus made the request during the team's July 23-25 series against the Cubs after he was late to a game and La Russa berated the outfielder during a closer-door meeting, threatening him with a demotion to Triple-A. It's becoming increasingly likely that one of Rasmus or La Russa won't be back in St. Louis next season, and the overwhelming odds would be that the manager would be the one to go.

I hate to stick up for Tony LaRussa, but who the [expletive] is Colby Rasmus to request a trade? I may not like Tony LaRussa, but hes one of the most respected managers in the history of thr game, and Rasmus is a 24 year old with 2 solid but not spectacular seasons under his belt. Its the equivelent of Tyler Colvin requesting a trade.

I don't follow the day to day runnings of the Cards, but has this not become kind of a common theme with LaRussa?

He's like a bad middle school teacher where he picks his favorites and they get away with whatever while everybody else has to play by the rules. Then, if you don't, Tony plays the victim and makes the player look like a pariah and off the team he goes. The only reason Rolen lasted as long as he did is because Tony knew he needed him as much as he needed Pujols at the time.

is there really a chance that larussa wont be back next season?

He's on a one year deal, so there's no contract keeping him here. The more I hear on talk radio down here, the more it sounds like the players are tired of his power plays and I'm smarter than everybody attitude. If Pujols wasn't his greatest advocate, I think he'd have been gone a year or two ago. (Pujols being his greatest advocate meaning if it was the Cards best player, but a guy not as "great" as Pujols, LaRussa wouldn't probably still be here).

Let's make it easy on the Cardinals and take Rasmus off their hands.

And, why don't we help them out by sending Soriano and his contract for Rasmus.

Larussa gets the lead-off guy he desperately needs. :)

Yeah, and then have Soriano go and hit .400 with 78hr and 144SB?!
