They definitely needed a centerfield so I thought it was a decent move for them last year until I saw how lost he looked, however in limited time. But given his production this year its was a solid move

You mean his .335 OBP and sub .800 OPS?

His line is .288/.335/.463/.798 at the CF position. I'd say that's about market value for 12M a year.

So Kosuke's contract is fair?

He plays RF. And FWIW, Fangraphs lists Rio's value at $11.7M. He's also been slumping recently.

And he has the capability to play CF.

Rios's "slump" is about 3 months and counting.

i'm just furious a team that gives significant playing time to the corpses of juan pierre, mark kotsay and omar vizquel is still 'in contention'

you should be barred from the game of baseball for doing that

Yeah, but I think those 3 guys are ranked in the top 5 in "grit".

Omar is putting together a pretty damn fine season for such an old man.

.288/.357/.339

Definitely not terrible for a 43 year old SS, but you'd like to see some form of slugging from him.

So ... Rios increased his OPS by 20 points today. Guess you can't say sub .800 OPS player anymore.

Oooh, I hope we have Alex Rios OPS updates the rest of the year

OH MY GOD, WE'VE MADE A TERRIBLE MISTAKE.

Manny told Ozzie that he is ready to play...just not ready to start today. He was too tired from getting up at 4:30 AM and he needed some rest (wasn't he resting the last few days?). $133,000 for sitting on the bench is nice work if you can get it. Manny also pulled a Sammy and conveniently forgot how to speak English at his press conference. Joey Cora acted as interpreter.

It seems a little strange that Ramirez was let go by the Dodgers for nothing. Was he that much of a malcontent that they couldnt live with him on the team for 2 more months? I know the Dodgers are trying to shed salary because of their owners issues, so I guess it saves them $5 million. I'm just surprised they couldn't coax a PTBNL out of the Sox.

I bet the White Sox claimed him, and then knowing the Dodgers money woes said they would only take him on a straight claim, and the Dodgers had no choice but to let him go or lose $5 mil for a non playoff team to have Ramirez for 2 months.

Another interesting thing about the Manny deal is that they spent more on him for a month ($4 million) than Thome's entire contract this year. Thome is having a solid year - far better than the Sox's compilation of underperforming DHs. I am not sure if they didn't get Thome because of money issues, or because Ozzie doesn't like station to station players. Either way, I am pretty sure the Sox are a couple of games better in the standings with Thome.

When they didn't resign Thome I thought it was explained that they didn't want to have a full time DH and would rather have a rotating DH so that guys could take a break from the field occasionally. And now they take on.....a full time DH!

I didn't realize there were still people who didn't realize how stupid this is. Testifying before congress in a second language isn't the same as telling the channel 5 sports guy how great the fans are in a second language. For the all the things you can criticize Sosa for, this isn't not one of them.

Yes but when he did speak, he spoke in extremely broken english. Also he did the same thing when explaining his corked bat. It's a valid point, but I do think there was some intention on Sosa's part to pretend to be the "besbol been berry berry good to me" guy.

I know from doing business overseas that when I'm in a stressful situation, my recollection of spanish goes way down. Even when you're experienced at a second language, I'd imagine that when you're testifying before congress or just got caught in an enormously embarrassing situation that it might be a cause to speak your second language less fluently.
