Is Strasburg Washington's Mark Prior?

They can keep him on rehab for a couple more weeks, bring him up for September, and you won't lose any service time out of it.

There's a cap on the number of days a rehab stint can last. Not sure of the exact number though; it's like 10 or 15 days IIRC.

Hopefully nobody in the league office finds out about Angel Guzman.

hahahaha

That, plus the consideration that he's healthy enough to play baseball, and it's baseball season.

Holding him out just because the Nats are out of contention doesn't make any sense either.

By that logic, the Cubs should send Castro home.

Considering the primary issue with Strasburg is health, that's a fairly ridiculous comparison to make.

Unless I'm misunderstanding, Strasburg no longer has an issue with his health.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that a lot of thought was paid by the Nats and their doctors to Strasburg's recovery path... the timeline, the PT protocol, when he can start throwing again, when he can return to game action, etc.

What I'm hearing folks say is that all of that planning and medical expertise, leading up to his return to competitive pitching, should be [expletive]-canned since the Nats aren't contending, even though the recovery is otherwise on track.

Technically, Guzman isn't on a rehab assignment.

Technicalities aside, that was funny.

breaking news, he's still really good.

4 gs, 25.0 ip, 17 h, 3 er, 0 hr, 6 bb, 25 k, 1.08 era, 0.92 whip.

Crazy to say that's not Prior-at-his-best good.

Crazy to say that's not Strasburg-at-his-best good.

I expected this post...It's true...I'm excited to see if he'll ever match '03 Prior in full season dominance.

Prior 2003 is seriously underrated... I seriously don't know how freakin' Gagne won the CY over Prior/Schmidt that year... Don't get me wrong. Gagne was unreal that year and a closer can win a CY if there wasn't any SP who put up great #s, but both Prior/Schmidt put up great #s... Plus Prior was only 22 on top of that... *sigh* "What could've been...."

I think wins (18) basically took Prior out of consideration back then. Didn't Wood finish with more votes than him?

Schmidt probably should have won, but sucks that that's pretty much the only fully healthy full season from Prior. The guys talent should be legendary, but mostly it's just a vague, painful memory.

Never thought about this but there's a decent shot that all three of those guys benefitted from the muscle juice.

Depressing. You forget how good Prior was.

He meant prior was better. I think.

why should Schmidt have won?

Wow was going to say he threw the most innings but...Wow [expletive] the voters on that. Prior really got shafted...can't believe I forgot that because 15 year old me would know this and be pissed. Thanks for the further Prior depression.

Still think the Cubs teams of the mid-late 2000s are amongst the elite in baseball consistently if Prior stayed healthy. Z was the next closest to a true ace and he just walked too many guys to really join the elite. Imagine the 2008 team with Prior/Z/Dempster/Lilly as the first four in the rotation.

Yeah they really need an ace here so I can move on from the whole Prior story....
