Going to the game tonight. Don't embarrass yourselves too badly, Cubs.

What would happen if we, like..... won two games in a row ??

The universe would collapse in on itself until all matter could fit inside a thimble.

Which is pretty cool, because what's left of me would be floating up on what's left of Jessica Alba.

Go Cubs!

Len just said they haven't had a runner past first base when they had a runner thrown out at home on a double. I wasn't going to post until after the game was over to keep this gamethread that sad, but I had to post that.

Why in the [expletive] is Zambrano pinch hitting?

I hate it too, but there are only 2 people on the bench. One is the back up catcher and it's a tight game. It's one of the few times I think Z pinch hitting was warranted.

Still a loooooooooooooooooooooong shot for Colvin to ever hit 20 HR over a full season. Edited by EhDubya

I assume Ramirez is unavailable, but that still leaves Hoff, Kosuke, and 3 Fingers

Oh man, if Colvin turns out to be a useful player I'm going to feel so stupid since I really, really want him to suck.

Yes, but if one of Hoff/Kosuke is used that means you only have 1 bench bat in a game that is tied going into the late innings.

Seeing as the Cubs will have a void at 1B next year, is Huff on a 2/10 deal a bad idea? It gives the Cubs time to either find a legitimate 1B prospect or sign a big time FA. Huff is currently on a 1/3 deal with the Giants and he's performed well over expectations.

I never said you said you wanted him to suck. But you did say it would be a "loooooooooooooooooooooong shot" for him to ever hit 20+ hr over a full year. Which is funny to me since he will do it in his rookie year in somewhat limited ABs.

You play to win as early as possible, you don't hold a bat on the bench in case the game goes 13 innings. If it gets to that point, then you use Zambrano

Hey, if I'm wrong I'm wrong.

And while I'm griping, it kind of frightens me that Berg is all of a sudden the go-to reliever after Marmol and Marshall. I can easily see him blowing lots of games in the late innings last year due to an empty ERA this year.

This is the saddest game thread I have ever seen.

Not shocking since it's a west coast late game.

I can respect that, sorry to hash on it so much. Just think it's cool he's having a better rookie year than "future top 50 of all time" Jason Heyward. Just can't wait till someone moves him out of leadoff..

Well that should take care of that.

Do we never use Marshall or Marmol in close games anymore? I feel like everytime I turn on the game its Russell or Berg or one of the other young relievers blowing a close game.

The Cubs want Anthony Rendon really really bad.

Marshall threw 26 pitches Monday, 19 yesterday. Marmol threw 32 pitches yesterday, so at most was only available for 1 inning.
