These teams are making some dumb mistakes. And it's easy to say now, but it was too early to go for 2. I don't think you should do that until the 4th quarter.

Random fact but VaTech lost to Alabama in the 09 opener, LSU in their second game in 2007 and USC in the 04 opener. All three teams won the National Title that year.

 

Of course, VaTech also lost to ECU to start the 2008 season.

Weird rule the announcers explained; apparently there has to be less than two minutes left on the clock.

It's similar to the NFL clock rules now. Unless it's under two minutes, the clock only stops before the ball is placed back at the line. Once that happens, the clock starts running again.

2 minutes and under only. I believe it starts up once the ball is set all other times.
