Aaaaaaaand Fresno State is headed to the MWC.

Nevada also.

So what happens to the rest of the WAC for football? They've only got six teams left.

Considering LA Tech is a member, they don't seem too tied down to geographic limitations. Their best case scenario seems to be to try and raid the C-USA West or the top Sun Belt teams (+ North Texas)

I don't know if C-USA teams would see that as an upgrade or not.

By rule leagues have to have eight teams. My guess is either the WAC or C-USA disintegrates, with one mostly absorbing the other.

I wonder how this affects BYU's decision now. If the WAC is dead, then will BYU go independent in all sports? If BYU stays in the MWC now, is the conference strong enough for an automatic bid?

What a mess that would be. That's 18 teams from Hawaii to Florida.

Being independent in basketball would be a nightmare scheduling-wise.

Yeah, 'mostly' I had to put in there because I have to believe that UCF and a couple more of the easternmost C-USA teams would move somewhere else, but I have no idea where.

I guess Southern Miss, Marshall, UAB, East Carolina, UCF could poach a couple of Sun Belt teams (Troy and Arkansas St?) and then add Missouri for 8.

Like we're going to sign up to play Troy every year. We learned our lesson on that one, nice try.

So is QB FORCE transferring or not?

Everyone seems to be jumping against the rumor and saying he's not transferring. It still sucks to be a Michigan fan right now, though.

At least they have the renovated stadium to look forward to.

Stewart Mandel[/url]"]WAC commish Karl Benson teleconference at 1 pm ET. Poor guy was moving his daughter into college yesterday while league fell apart.

That had to suck.

Lost: Utah

Gained: Boise St., Fresno St., Nevada

Utah and Boise St. are pretty much a wash (and arguably a downgrade -- will depend on how BSU does without its cupcake WAC schedule).

I'm not so sure if Fresno St. and Nevada make it a BCS conference...

Wow. Benson said that there was a recording error and Nevada never actually signed the $5 million buyout agreement. However, he believes the oral agreement will be enough.

He also said he has no clue what will happen with BYU. He just hopes the WAC can work out a deal with them.

I know there has been mention a few months ago about the WAC offering to some FCS teams like UCD, Cal Poly, Sac St and others from the Great West and Big Sky. Not sure how realistic that was though.

Benson said the WAC will look at schools in Division I-A and I-AA conferences. Among the schools that have been reported as possibilities are Montana, UC-Davis and Cal-Poly.

Montana makes a lot of sense. They're the best I-AA program in the land and their basketball team made the NCAA Tournament not too long ago.

For Montana it depends on whether they want to continue to be one of the best FCS teams year after year or if they want to risk that to go FBS. They get 25K in attendance each game (a reason why they don't need to schedule FBS teams) and they compete for national titles every year.

The rumor this morning is that the MWC and C-USA are in talks to hold a championship game between the winners of the two leagues in an attempt to get an automatic BCS berth.

And while the two conferences wouldn't merge, there apparently would be some scheduling cross-over in some sports.

I know things change, but I'll still say it. Is C-USA ever going to win that game?

Tulane would have won it that one year they had Shaun King. So, once every 15 years or so.

according to my dad, Paterno is no longer doing interviews, autographs, public appearances, etc. My dad says he looks really bad and seems to have aged 10 years this off season. Hopefully the guy makes it through the season

Paterno was just doing a press conference like a week ago.

COACH PATERNO: I have one request -- Please don't ask me if I'm going to die tomorrow. (Laughter) Believe me, I've got a few more days left. (Laughter) Okay, let's talk football.

He did a pretty funny one recently too...cuz Boors and Bernstein played a clip....I'm trying to find it...
